Those are the best, when your fiance who's never caught more than a bluegill hooks into a 30lb black drum in a kayak. She was screaming for help lol, she caught two big uglies all by herself that day!

I've got someone coming from out of state to fish this weekend that doesn't fish much, especially SW. I've been thinking all week that I hope he hooks into a jack or big bull red.

I'm more a sport fisherman than anything. I only harvest redfish and large trout when I'm out and if people ask my for fish. Other than that I'm a sport kinda guy.

I'm with you

Was cool when I was a kid, but I'm disappointed when my gear gets wrecked by trash, mostly bull reds

I only fought a Jack to the boat one time, to show my eventual wife what it was. We were on the Pelto side, and it took roughly 30 minutes

Sharks don't bother me as much, they rarely stay on long, and at least you know you may have deterred it from messing up ur trout fishing.

I have never caught one in the marsh, but I have caught a few around Little Lake in Leeville and out in Timbalier bay during the summer months. fun to fight but those bastards will tear up some tackle!!

No it's not a troll, I love to fish to catch fish. I keep fish occasionally. I love you target bull reds, big uglies, blacktip shark and whatever will give a massive fight. I always have been like that, I just started to harvest fish in the past couple years. I prefer redfish over trout as well. If I feel like eating fish I usually will harvest just enough for dinner that night, clean them and cook them right away. I'm more of a red meat person anyways, unless it's mahi mahi, I'll kill for mahi mahi.

Use live pinfish 3-5" on bottom. If bull reds are in the area they will hit it. Jacks love them, bull reds and blacks love them, put a steel leader or +150lb flouro or mono leader and you'll catch blacktip sharks in the bays as well.

I'll likely kill myself fishing for mahi mahi in my Express boat.

Sorry you tried to derail my thread wanting to be an a-hole. frick off, and have a nice day. I have no desire to go blue water fishing for mahi mahi in my express boat. I've wanted to try kayaking for mahi mahi in pensacola off the beach because they are out there. Everytime I have brought my hobie it was 3-4 surf oceanside, everytime I leave it at home it's glass.

I almost exclusively use penn battle 2/3 reels for my inshore fishing, I cant kill em. They have seals rotor bearings and all other bearings are corrosion resistant as. The line lay is not always perfect, but ives never had a reel break, seize up, have drag get stuck, or reel rough. The parts are cheap and easy to come by and easy to self maintain. I love my shimano slx dc for baitcasting and my penn conflict 2 is a light all round good spinning reel for artificials.

The battles are cheap enough new, and even cheaper used that I don't really worry about wearing them out. I add oil occasionally and regrease them when I need to.

Shimano and diawa seem to be slightly smoother in the same price point, but their parts in my experience, with shimano, are more expensive.

I didn't know that monster jacks lived that deep into the marsh

They usually don't. The big ones will sometimes chase bait/trout into the marsh in winter and get lost. My dad caught a giant one in up in the marsh in Leeville one time, but it was clearly starving and pretty skinny.

Wait.... You've been shooting them? With a bow or spear gun?
