You got me with it.

My question here is, how hard is it to get parts/repairs done if needed on a truck like this?

There is a pretty decent LC user community, but your vehicle is on the more rare side, being a Japanese import with RHD. Honestly, I would go to your dealership and ask to speak, briefly, with a service consultant. Be blunt - tell them you're a Toyota owner (you are) and want to know how difficult it is to get OEM parts for a vehicle like this.

Then look at the LC forums and find out what those folks say. Good luck - I'd like to do a 70s or 80s resto (of a U.S. model) to have as a fun vehicle.

I would do a diesel I4 if I could, and make a LC version of Top Gear's indestructible Hilux.

Yeah, the diesel i4 is nice. They reportedly get good fuel mileage and have great low end torque. It would definitely be a project and something I want to drive alot. I refuse to buy a vehicle and let it sit

This is the one I'm looking at. Body and frame are in good shape. No frame rust, a spot of body rust on one fender.

CT roads and Toyota, that thing is riddled with rust. Would not buy.

This thing isn't an 85 Toyota pickup. Slightly better corrosion resistance.

Toyota made fantastic trucks during that era - I wouldn't be all that hesitant if it is what you want - make it work.

Beautiful 70 series. Would I buy it? No.

Parts are very hard to find and you can’t even buy injectors for it anywhere, including Japan. You have to have them rebuilt. I have a few friends with 70 series and they all sorta wish they wouldn’t have bought them because of parts being so hard to find. 2 of them are in the shop with wiring harness problems and have to have someone build them from scratch.

Thanks. This is exactly what I needed to hear, not necessarily what I wanted to hear. I didn’t realize parts and everything was AS scarce. I’ve wanted a diesel 4x4 suv for a while, but wasn’t aware of how minimal the part support was.

It’s crazy they don’t make things like injectors for them anymore. They are amazing trucks and it’s a shame that Toyota won’t make them.

And, my friends that have them aren’t just one time cruiser buyers. We have all been cruiser freaks for over 25 years and know most of the people that have been in the business for years that try to keep old cruisers running. Most of us have 3 or more Cruisers. It’s addictive.

If you ever need help or have questions, most are on ih8mud.com. Good guys over there but there are some idiots there, too. Or, post here, there are some cruiser freaks here, too.

Thank you.

Whatever I get will not be wheeled hard/at all outside of hunting camp type stuff. It’ll be driven daily for about 50 miles a day. I’m also not into super modified vehicles. I like what I call “stock plus”, minor enhancements while keeping the overall stock look of the vehicle. Almost to the point where someone would look twice at it because they don’t know if it’s been modified or not. I’ve been considering a TJ as well, it would just need to be the right one. My 4runner is about as "refined" a vehicle that I want. So many TJ’s are modified to the point that I would be removing lifts, and I don’t want necessarily feel like removing a lift just for fun.

I feel the same way and I'm a purist of sorts. A little lift, and maybe some armor that doesn't take any cutting or much drilling of holes for bolting.

If you ever find one, I have friends throughout the US that may be able to go look at it for you if it's not too far. I've bought a few sight unseen like that. And, if it's not too far from Mandeville, I'd be happy to go inspect it for you as well. Good luck on your search. I have an FJ-40 for sale, but it's very rare so unfortunatly it's not cheap.

I had a 2000 LC, I loved that vehicle, and regret ever getting rid of it, drove it 133K, only repair was replacing the alternator.

Their resale value is insane.

Badass vehicles though.

Driving home Friday afternoon I saw a red 60 series for sale in front of the NAPA Truck Parts store on Hwy. 90 between Lafayette and Scott, but was in a hurry to get home so I didn't stop. Went by this morning to look at it, and it's gone already.

Looked like this but not this nice.
