I used to bring an extra cooler with me for gaff tops for my Hispanic crew. They made fish head soup with it one day. It smelled great and I was pumped to eat it. They also said it was a hangover cure. They served up my bowl and they’d literally quartered up the gaff tops. There was skin, whiskers, tail and all. I almost yacked. I got over my fears and it was actually delicious. I didn’t eat whiskers, peeled the skin off, and felt a whole lot better afterwards. The tequila may have helped as well.

We also kept a jack every now and then. We’d give them to a guy named Gato. He loved them. I was never brave enough to see what the hell he did with them.

I cleaned a small jack crevalle when I was younger that thing bled like it had red meat. I guess you could bleed it, smoke the meat and make a dip but man it is bloody. Yankees eat blue fish so I guess anything is possible.

Was just coming to post that I remember when the tarpon would chase mullet’s from the Rigolets and the Chef to that big hole on the South Shore. Big Fish.
