Went out to Big Alabama yesterday with my pirogue. Debated between Big and Little, but there was less trucks in the parking lot at Big, so that made the decision pretty easy. I've had some close calls in my pirogue before, so I don't care for fishing out of it when there are a lot of other boats (maybe 6 isn't a lot, but hey).

Anyway, fished for about 3 or 4 hours. For the water being high and muddy, the fishing wasn't bad. I only caught 1 bass, but had several other hits and bumps. At one point, I had several hits in one area, but all I had to show for it was half of a lizard.

Fun fishing, but MAN, the gnats and flies are HORRIBLE out there!! Need to find something to deal with them next time. The thermocell and Cutter weren't cutting it.

Might have been bream messing with your bait. Goggle eye will destroy my plastics. They're a blast sometimes. I like to set the hook hard on them and watch them fly through the air.

I'm off all next week. I got some catching up to do. Henderson is dropping, so I'll probably be out there a good bit. A friend of mine has been wearing them out on topwater and pissing me off with his Facebook posts.

Was my exact thought. The way it kept hitting it but wouldn't take it. Just had to be a bream.

Bassin Henderson 6-12-17

After a couple months I finally made it back out to Henderson.

High water? Not a problem. I mean, I wasn't lighting up the scoreboard or anything. But I focused on points, drains, and trees near breaklines. The one good thing about the water being high is it's easy to find the transitions if you know what used to be the bank (obviously underwater right now). Caught a few on topwater and some all the way down to 8 feet

I got a Pflueger Monarch lowpro baitcaster reel for $30 at walmart, and put it on a 7ft Berkley lightning rod shock rod i got for $40. I used it all day Saturday. It works very well for a cheap back up.

1991 Ranger 361V with a 1992 Johnson 175 Fast Strike. Still going strong.

Wife and I went chase some bream today in Henderson. Caught a few decent sized bluegill, but mostly smaller ones. Also caught one small bass. A little tougher than yesterday.

I was thinking about taking the kayak to Lake Martin tomorrow. But I think I need some rest. Gonna clean up the boat tomorrow and chill for a day. Then back to fishing on Thursday.
