That question is why the color linked deleterious genes is a better theory than just over inbreeding for for color.
The puppies who weren't chocolate would not have the two alleles necessary for the color linked gene to express the negative effects. They would be heterozygous for the deleterious genes, which would make them carries or they could not have them at all if they don't contain a copy of the recessive color linked gene.

I mentioned that earlier. It would be interesting to look at the yellows that are actually chocolates.
Maybe the gene that turns off the color could also turn off the expression of deleterious genes.

You asked for potential explanations.
From a genetic and gene expression standpoint, that's a potential explanation.

Oh, I see.
Still, there's nothing to suggest that bb carries with it anything bad at all. We know inbreeding does.

Except, on average, a shorter lifespan.

I’ve got some good healthy long living black puppies
Who wants some??

Black is the only way to go, atleast for me when it comes to labs. I wouldn’t even consider another color. Problem with yellow is you have to put face paint on them or atleast one guy on this board does

So if 1 dog year equals 7 human year on average and there are like 8 different color labs, can someone give me the human years for each lab color?

I don't know about living longer... but our current yellow sheds worse than any other color lab I've ever had.
So damn true. My yellow is 11, and he sheds like no other.

7 is widely quoted but not really a good rule of thumb.

Back to the top... I saw someone advertising a mixture of charcoal labs and black labs in a litter are charcoal labs just as bad as silver labs?
