Watched the male earlier today sit on the eggs then rearrange them and resume sitting.

I think the male might have given up on the eggs. Looks like he was gone all day yesterday leaving the eggs unguarded. Then came back to the nest around midnight. Slept on a nearby branch for about 3 hours and then came into the nest and dug out some of the nesting materials and sunk the eggs deep into it. Then he left again immediately afterwards around 3 am and looked to be gone all day again

Yeah the eggs are now gone and he is with a new female. On a side note, they just lost a second female, Anna. Two nest cams, two females on eggs, both now dead.

Dang I watched her incubating them over the holidays. Her death must be a recent development.

Avian Flu is a serious, deadly disease of all birds that is of grave concern.
Anna, the female in E-1 (mate is Louis), was already showing signs of being unwell as of Jan. 1. However, her symptoms were a little different from Andria (the female eagle of E-3 which died on 12/8/2023, cause still unknown, waiting on necropsy results.) Anna was last seen on Saturday; but made an appearance on Sunday at dusk when ANOTHER female eagle ambushed her in mid-air and knocked her to the ground! Everything was caught on the eagle cams so Forest Service staff were able to hasten to the site and capture Anna using a large net and blanket.
Anna was transferred to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine’s Wildlife Hospital in Baton Rouge for assessment by wildlife biologist tech, Cody Austell.
MEANWHILE, “As the Nest Turns,” a NEW pair of eagles have done a walk-through of the E-3 nest and may decide to take up residence if they like the neighborhood as Alex has flown the proverbial coop and not been seen for days. Louis has tried to continue to incubate his and Anna’s single egg while a new Female has appeared and tried to get cozy. He was having none of it but she is persistent and continues to hang around. She may have been the culprit who chased poor Anna away and knocked her down.

Don't let them tell LDWF. If there is a disease going around they'll decide killing all the birds in a 1 mile area surrounding the infected animal is the cure.

Damn that makes sense now. I thought it was Alex that buried the eggs in the nest but it likely was the new male. Seems like with an avian virus of that nature all of the eagles on camera could be susceptible to catching it if in contact or habitating the same nesting sites as other infected birds.

Whatever is killing our quail, turkeys, songbirds, blackbirds, crows, and maybe our deer, is obviously also killing eagles. There is some weird shite going on in the food chain.

Depends on what they are poisoned with most rats poisons don’t affect what eats them.
But the assholes that use that fly poison to kill animals - DOES kill whatever eats the dead animal too - and seizures is one of the things
