OB kayak thread
Whats your budget? If you’re willing to spend $1400 or more, get a pedal drive. Keeps your hands free to fish and allows you to cover more water. Hobie and Pelican both have entry level pedal drive models in that price range. The Pelican one is a knockoff of Hobie’s old drive and I think Academy carries it. For the Hobie, I’d recommend taking a trip to Gulfport to Everything Kayak. They have a big selection and have a pool inside their shop so you can test out a kayak before you buy. And they stock damn near every possible accessory you could ever want

kayak for bass fishing?
A lot will depend on your budget. Jackson, Native, Hobie, Wilderness Systems, Bonafide, just to name a few, are some of the more popular brands.
I’ll say this much, the Native Titan was specifically designed for bass fishing. That doesn’t mean it’ll suit you. But check out the big kayak thread linked above. And if you need more info or have more questions, ask them there and you’ll get plenty of answers.

Ascend
Was 1st rig was a FS12T and loved the layout
was a damn tank but surprisingly easy to paddle, only complaint would be the seat
It’s needed to be raised a couple inches up and honestly not that comfortable for a all day trip but pretty easy fixes
like you said at the price point very solid boats

Try the used market first. My first 2 Hobie's were used and got great deals. Found them both on FB.

If you have enough budget to get a native slayer or titan, do it. In my biased opinion there isn’t a better boat for bass fishing. The boat control even when windy is unparalleled. The prop style has hands free reverse which is huge. I know the hobie 360 now has reverse but you still have to turn a nob. I just backward pedal.
If pedals aren’t in your budget there are tons of sub $1k boats that are quality out there. Figure out what you do the most and buy a boat that suits that. If you mainly want to stand and fish heavy cover, get a wide boat like the ascend 128t or Jackson Bite. If you want to cover a lot of water look at the V2 Feelfree Moken 12.5. If you want something lightweight and versatile, look at a Native Ultimate.
Prioritize what suits you first and fit the boat to that.

I have a Native Ultimate 12 and it is a great boat. I use it to hunt waterfowl and to fish trout and redfish. It isn't a fishing kayak but it is stable enough to stand up on and it can take a beating. Light enough to carry a good distance and easy to strap on an suv or truck. Probably not what most serious fishermen would choose but Im bringing it up because it's a great versatile option. Should be able to find a new one for 800 or maybe lower if you can find used.

Yeah I wonder if we should sticky that thread.

If you get a pedal drive, absolutely. If you're going to paddle it anyway I'd just use what you have; it's got more space.

quote:Paddle yak...depends on the model. Some are big heavy tanks with lots of space and stability, others are lighter and built for being more maneuverable. Pedal drive yak...absolutely more efficient. Your legs won't tire out nearly as much as your arms, so you can cover more water in a trip plus keep your hands free to fish while using the pedal drive like a trolling motor.

You can always go on Youtube and find a bunch of video walkthroughs and reviews of some models you think you might be interested in to compare.

Check out Vibe Kayak’s. I have a camo 2 man for my son and I. No complaints! Think I spent $750 for it.

I have a Vibe Sea Ghost 130 I’m trying to sell. It’s practically brand new. Let me know if you’re interested.
