Were those ponds out of your normal farming area? They just remind me of some places a little south and west of you. I would never say where, just curious. I wouldn't mind seeing them with my own eyes though, to be honest.

FIFY. Eventually it’s time to cut bait and perhaps maintain a captive population. Extinction is a natural process that has been occurring for millions of year

We see a few at our farm in Refugio Co. Texas. They mix with the Sand Hills. Whoopers numbers increasing slowly-over 500 estimated.

well, It's been a few years since I have roamed much in your area, some of those dikes and tree lines looked like some places I have seen before, somewhere else.

Believe me, there are people that you talk to every day, that would strangle the last panda. Sick people.

My ears perk up with the whooper talk.

We have several whooper pairs that are straying further north from their normal TX coastal grounds. My fear is that they are shot in a hunting situation and that causes the sandhill season to be shut down.

Most of the whooper killings are panda stranglers or kids. Rarely are they shot in a hunting mistaken identity situation. I’ve been told that it would only take 1 or 2 suck killings to shut down Sandhills.

Thanks for the pics, so awesome! I saw my first pair this year right after the Hurricane Laura near Lake Arthur south of Jennings. What a magnificent bird to actually see in person. There is no mistaking them based on size alone, but those black wingtips in flight are confirmation. The pair I saw also graced my ears with a "unsison call" where they both trumpet at the same time. Cool beans bro...….
