My 3 year old female is damn near perfect at this point.

Yes, tons of energy. Yes, needs to be run. And if you're her pack leader, she will NEVER want to leave your side. Walking from the couch to the bathroom? She's coming to sit outside the door. That can get annoying at times.
But she is a damn good dog. She listens, responds to commands, is great socially with other people and animals, is protective to my kids, and never loses her happy, dopey disposition. I admit to some buyers remorse in the first 2 years, but when the training took and a bit of the puppy got out, she has become a great family pet.

My only advice, OP, is patience and start his/her training right now. Also invest in the bitter apple anti-chewing spray.

My brother had one for a long time. Spook was his name.

When he died, they got a GSP. Her name is Sassy (as in Sasquatch (don't let you 8 y/o twins name a dog. ))

FWIW, the GSP is more high strung than his high strung Weimaraner was....

Had one from puppy to 13 years until he passed. Great dog in many ways. Very smart. Loads of energy. Long puppy life.

Used mine very successfully to track wounded/ lost deer. But he wouldn't bay when he found them. He just laid down next to them or would sometimes come back to retrieve me. Ended up putting a bell on his neck so I could tell when he stopped, which meant he found the deer.

Naturally, a very birdy dog. If I had time and the patience of Job, I think he would have made a fine upland bird dog.

He did swim. He did retrieve. I suppose he could have been trained for it. We always had labs for that purpose.

I just got two litter mates 2 weeks ago. Took them 3 days to learn to use the doggie door. They were 11 weeks old when I got them. Glad I bought two so they can keep each other entertained and worn out lol

My wife had one when we started dating years ago. Stupid amount of energy. Very high strung dog. Chewed on everything. Would take food off tables and shite.

I had a lab around that time and he would just sit and watch her when we were inside. I thought he had a bunch of energy but I could take him out for a walk in the morning and play with a frisbee or one of his duck bumpers for about 20-30 min and he was cool the rest of the day. I remember my wife was in awe of how relaxed he would be.

The Weimaraner was honestly hard to deal with. People that have them love them but you couldn't pay me to take one of those dogs. I'll stick with Labs.

Another thing I did with him from a young age though is he had 2 collars - one for the house and one for when we were going to work (hunting).

I used him as a blood dog, dove dog and duck dog. When he saw his work collar come out he always jumped up and his level went to a 10. I also got him in water a bunch as much as I'd take him to the lake or to a pond just to blow off energy. Usually kept his levels at home to a reasonable chill.

Ha, in college me and my roommate both got dogs around the same time. I had a lab and he had a weimaraner. My lab absolutely hated this dog. He was just weird as hell. I've only had labs, so just seeing the different personality traits up close was crazy.

Us four lived together for almost three full years and my lab never really warmed up to his. This was the only dog my lab didn't like in the whole world.

Sounds similar.

My wife's dog was just so goddamn hyperactive and batty. My dog was just more laid back and relaxed.

Don't get me wrong- My dog had a ton of energy when we go play or go fishing or hunting but in the house, he knew to bring it down a notch and act right.

My wife's dog was like a 7-year-old kid that severely needed ADD medicine that was constantly on a sugar high.
