Friend of mine was gifted a John Deere Gator.
NOLA Metro area.
Besides a little cosmetic clean-up and a good wash, it seems to be in pretty good shape.
It won't start but that isn't surprising because it has not been run in a few years.
Does anyone have any good recommendations on a repair shop that could diagnose what needs to be done and that would get it up and running?
Thanks

ETA: It's a model year 2000, and hasn't ran in 3 years.

Do you know why it was parked? I mean, what was wrong with it to stop using it...

The original owner passed away. Nothing was wrong with it at the time it stopped being used.

My only experience is with lawnmowers.

I wonder if it's as simple as draining the fuel. Cleaning the carbeurator. Changing battery, spark plugs, etc.

But he is the one looking for a shop so that is why I am asking for suggestions.

Any Deere dealership will be able to work on it, but they might be a little higher than you could find elsewhere

Its basically a lawnmower engine with a clutch driven belt. Clean / rebuild the carb and put new gas in it.

If you're somewhat competent using hand tools and following directions, it's an easy DIY fix. There are hundreds of videos on YouTube showing you how to repair, replace, and fix non-running small engines. Go to Amazon or search the inet and it will cost you approx. $60 for the items listed below ($30 for tune-up kit, and $32 for the carb). Your most expensive purchase will be a new battery. The rubber hoses may be dry rotted so replace those too. Drain the gas, and oil, then add fresh fuel and lubricants

Air filter
Oil filter
Fuel pump
Fuel filter
2 spark plug

The carb likely just needs to be cleaned really good, including the needle valve and float.

Pretty sure if you bring it to a JD service center, they will charge you $200+ for P&L and it will be a 6-8 week wait. I still use a gas-powered edger b/c I'm old school. Local small engine repair guy wanted to charge me $75 to replace the plug and clean the carb. I did it myself for < $10 and my edger runs like a top.

first off determine if its peddle start or key start. then clean carb, drain old fuel, change battery, check soleniod under the passenger seat and fuses. if its peddle start, the starter/generator may be bad or need new brushes installed.
