as a 40 year high pressure pipeline welder once told me, “for a beginner, keeping dat bead a dime wide and half a dime high will work on most handy man projects...”

I didn’t know amateur welding was legal. I’m gonna give that a shot.
Do you wear the full face mask thing or just safety glasses?

Got a cheap auto-darkening welding helmet. Need welding gloves, long sleeve cotton shirt or welding sleeves or a welding jacket.

Very true, and he knows this. I was just making sure he was fricking around and he was. Sometimes its tough to tell on here

Today I learned that quality consumables matter. I was having a really tough time trying to weld sections of de-galvanized galvanized tubing together without blowing through, stacking up weld globs, and arc stability issues. Wasted the last of the small spool of flux core the unit came in adjusting wire speed, voltage, and inductance settings. Swapped in the spool of Lincoln wire and immediately the problems went away. Arc was smoother, not blowing through, finally looked like it was supposed to. Best $12 I've spent yet on this welder...

Wire alloy definitely matters. I use miller religiously and the two machines i have are auto set and i rarely set wire speed or heat.
It took getting used to but after getting used to it, its the only way for me.
Keep practicing, it will all work out.

Definitely recommend a full face shield, preferably auto darkening IMO, or you'll wind up like this baw

I have always loved your decision making process, baw.
