Father in law and I took my son fishing at Sardis Lake with a pro. He’s only 8 but he was better at reading the live scope screen and putting the jig above the fish than we were. Caught one striped bass and ~50 crappie. Two dozen keepers. It was a day that none of us will ever forget.

Where would be the best lake closest to BR that I could hire a guide to take me and my son out to do the same. I’ve never been on a true sacalait trip before and I know he would absolutely love it.

Anything closer than Toledo?

Not to my knowledge. Toledo bend or Sam Rayburn are probably your best options.

That was the crappie guide’s boots.
He guides at Grenada , Sardis , Enid and Arkabutla. I’m not sure what else he does but welder or pipe fitter isn’t a bad guess.

I know it’s a long way out but you may want to consider looking at Easter Weekend 2025. Your son will have a 3-4 day weekend from school. Book a trip at Grenada or Sardis with a guide on Good Friday. You check the kid out of school on Thursday and make the drive up. Crappie fish on Friday ,drive home Saturday and you don’t even have to miss Easter Sunday with the rest of the family. You don’t have to bring anything except a cooler with snacks and drinks on the boat. Guide takes care of the rest. Just an idea.

Best time of year in NMS.

We enjoyed being out at Sardis so much, we put a bar out there in the marina.

Crush Crappie in the AM. Beers and poboys in the PM with some live music.
