Agreed. I love hunting and fishing, but I'm not on board the "all predators must die" train. There's room for everyone.
*Edit to add:
As far as eating gar, I'm probably like everyone else - never considered it. We used to bow fish a lot back in the day. They seemed super slimy and stanky, but from what I've read on this board over the past few years, maybe I shouldn't be so quick to dismiss them.

Choupique (another underrated fish) and gar fish are delicious. But damn they have torn up some of my good frogs and crankbaits.

Everyone who always believed gar was a trash fish were impressed.
I was taught that too growing up because my dad and grandpa always told me it was a trash fish and we always threw em back. Then a few years ago I was fishing with a buddy and caught one about 3.5' or 4' long. I was about to cut the line to let it go and he stopped me and said that was good eatin. Brought it home and watched how he cleaned it and he made fried gar balls. Changed my line of thinking about gars ever since then.

Gotta cook the choupique on the same day, though. If you put that in the freezer for later then it's not nearly as good.

Nah, go ahead and dismiss them. Unless all there is to eat is gar fish.
