Have a G3 Aluminum boat with the painted on non slip surface. Boat only has 100 hrs, aluminum is in good shape. I ordered hydroturf with the 3M adhesive backing.

Will cleaning the surface really good be enough? Power wash and wipe down with mineral spirits.

I really don't want to sand or grind.

That will be fine. The backing is pretty strong. If you need to you can use 3m spray adhesive to help it stick even more.

When I installed it in my old boat I had the same grit like stuff on the floor. I just used adhesive spray around the edges of hydro turf to give it a little extra sticking power. Make sure you have a roller to get all the air bubbles out.

Would use acetone instead of mineral spirits.

Just did my john boat last year. Use acetone instead. mineral spirits leaves a residue, And eats up the adhesive.

How much did you pay a sheet? Order online or local?

I ordered it from HydroTurf.
$310 TOTAL for 2 sheets of the 2-tone wide groove. Swamp camo on gray.

I had carpet on my Alumacraft so I got a chemical stripper and cleaned the old glue and paint to bare aluminum. I took it to the car wash and washed it out. There was a prior thread I posted about it.

I have the same color in mine. I used the 3M Spray Adhesive and I had the Turf with the adhesive backing.. I cut it out to fit, then sprayed the floor, removed the backing and laid it down. It would be better if you have someone to help with that part...trust me. When you put it down...you only have a little bit of time if you put it down catttywonkers.

I did mine a few years ago, clean with power washer and than denatured alcohol. Cut sheets with backing on and install - I used 3M spray adhesive on corners, edges - looked great - sold the boat sorry I don’t have any pictures. Any air bubbles can be punctured and pushed out, once the sticky surface hits the boat it is hard to manipulate.
