south of Slidell

Are you a member of Tally Ho? I went out there on sunday and saw only one flock of teal. I have friends who are on a lease out there. I'd be interested in comparing notes and see where you hunt in relation to us.

No, I'm not in a club. We had tons of ducks first split. Just had a hard time getting them to decoy, basically like any marsh hunting, but I wouldn't be surprised if numbers were low bc everything was salt burnt from the hurricane. I haven't been down there lately because I had finals last week.

I want to get into duck hunting more as well

I'll probably have to wait till next year to really get set up though

do ducks generally spook when they see kayaks?

like if I just floated down a bayou, how close could I drift toward the ducks before they fly? Shooting range?

just in general

I had intended on getting into duck hunting this year but being away from home has put a stop to that.

Salmon, what kind of ducks? They generally spook pretty easily though. If you know where ducks usually are then set up some camo on your yak and go to that spot before daylight. If its woodies all you need is a half dozen decoys at most.

if you are floating a curvy slow flowing river you can get within range but a straight part of river they will fly outside of range most likely. You are also mostly after wood ducks I assume?

I'm thinking of doing the same. I like the idea of a higher success rate

If they have land nearby just pull your yak up on it and sit on the land. We usually use 6 decoys but 2 will do the trick.

Gotcha. Used to be my track coach and I know he leases land there too. We used to bust some ducks.

What are the bare necessities ill need?

i'm kind of in the process of trying to do this myself
a buddy took me on my first teal hunt and big duck hunt this year and it was a blast
no limits but we did pretty good
i already had some insulated waders and a 870 supermag
so far i've found the other things i need to get are:
-ammo/carry bag
-duck stringer(?)
-grow a beard
-buy calls and learn how to

things i want:
-dog
-better shotgun that's got a corrosion resistant coating
-nice duck jacket(fortunately my long sleeve camo shirt has been enough so far this hot season)

this shits fun brah
