I was joking. I know they have deer on those islands. Im talking about wide parts further south where current is torrential and depth of river increases. Swimming 400 yds to that island in an oxbow is a bit different than swimming at a wider point.

But thats just my assumption. Maybe I should have a climber set up on a bluff!

I'm sure they are selective about where they cross. I used to sit in the stand and watch the barges go up and down the river. Some damn good hunting. Sure miss it.

Not your buck for sure dayne o, he looked bigger whole running, but no bringing him back now

Had to yell at him 4 times to get him to stop for one second

Congrats! Nice deer. Why was he limping? See any sign of old injury?

Deer swim the Mississippi at Natchez quite often. They start on one side and wind up on the other, only a mile or so south of where they started.

His right front shoulder had an old injury, and on the inside of his ribs, some kind of growth had started, and a puss pocket developed right near where his lungs were on his right side. My guess is that he was hit by a car in the past but I don't know. We are near any highways, just a dirt road near St Catherine's refuge. No sign of a bullet wound.

Thanks guys, it was a beautiful morning today after 4 days of windy overcast shite

this morning on a latter stand near Ft. Adams. it was pretty nippy. short hunt to head into work. middle son texted and said it was chaos. He saw 10 does and 3 young bucks before 8:15!

now at work looking at these guys and they are pissing me off.

Hopefully get off to make an evening hunt. if not oh well will be up at the camp for 4 days and I'm going to kill something.

Have you seen anything yet this season worthy of a shot?

Only does during daylight and while hunting, missed one a couple weeks ago.

I've seen 3 or 4 decent young bucks on camera but all at night. Two of them just started showing up recently. It seems like all the big deer I've ever caught on camera in that spot didn't show up until after Christmas and most pics were in January.

What about you?

30-06 in box over looking plot
Wasn't going to hunt this evening but talked myself into it because I can't shoot them from my couch. Hope something slips up. On the way in tracks were everywhere so they must be moving.

Good luck this evening OB

Nice deer. I would be glad to kill that right now. Seeing lots of does but bucks are elusive as can be right now even though i see fresh scrapes everyday.
