I went to look at the Sig P226

I must say, that's one beautiful pistol. I also looked at the P229. The P226 seems the one for me. Now to find one under $1000

That's unreal - I got a factory reconditioned P229 (.40) last year, with 2 mags, NO night sites (I DGAF about a rail), and it was mid $600s, out the door.
(I can shoot it with my eyes closed, though - almost as good as "favoriteist" - my tried and true German P245).

yes. kickass little gun. the S's trigger blows the standard LC9's out of the water. the pro fixes all the issues with the regular LC9s, as well. no mag disconnect safety is a big positive.
