Anyone know where I would go to learn? I've googled it and don't see anywhere close to where I'm at.

Where do you live? I learned as a kid on a little boat called a sunfish. It was fun as hell on lake P. You could probably just get one and look up some basics.

I live in ga. About 1.5 hours from the gulf coast. Just curious to see the best way to learn. I love being on the water and used to go with some friends when I was small on lake p. But I just did what my friends dad told me to do. Never learned much.

I learned by trial and error on 14' Hobie Cat and my local library.

Find a local sailing club and see what they offer.

Look for the local sailing club, join, and ask to crew a boat. Let them know you experience.

You will be surprised at the amount of invites.

Otherwise, there is probably some sort of sailing class within a day's drive. Pensacola has a training school on the weekends

Adult Sailing lessons

Hosted by NOYC this summer at various times.

That or go hang out in the bar at NOYC or any of the other Gulf of Mexico Yacht clubs...... People are ALLWAYS looking for crew to sail in the low key Wednesday night beer races. If you show up regularly they will be glad to teach you how to sail for free and will likely supply beer and snacks for the crew.

If you at in NOLA you can sail with me and my boys on Wednesday nights.

Where in GA? I know Hilton head has a public sailing center there now. There are several other places there too that teach sailing.

I'm not sure about anything further south but I'm sure savannah has something. They had a nice club, but the sailing was in a large marsh channel so it wasn't too great.

Your best bet is to just buy a hobie 14 on a trailer or even a windsurfer, and read a little. The basics of sailing are not difficult at all and it's a very small learning curve to just go out and come back.
