For those interested in GSPs, also do research on the Braque Francias breed.

They're generally smaller in size than the standard GSP, and the greatest difference is in their 'home' personality. When in the home, they are supposed to be very mellow and more along the lines of a pet, not a bird dog 24/7.

Did a lot of research on the breed before purchasing one in May and have been very pleased so far. Although they look just like GSPs, I had a GSP for 11 years and I can already see major personality differences between the 2 breeds.

If you are talking about the draht breeders, some of the kennels producing the best dogs have either no website or a less than impressive website. I'm not aware of any true "commercial" DD breeders, most are just average folks that hunt a lot. They aren't too big on marketing, but you can still find lots of good info on the web if you look hard enough.

If I'm thinking of the correct litter and remember the pedigrees properly, Pogey's dog is related to my dog on his Sire's side, they share somewhat of a resemblance.

If you're really interested in a Draht, shoot me an email and I'll get you pointed in the right direction. I know some people.

Great info men. Thanks for the info. I'll try to trade down the breeder in Shreveport since I'm close to her.

I recommend getting a rescue. There is a group in Lafayette. Louisiana German shorthaired pointer rescue. Facebook page. I recently got a 2.5 year old male from them. House broken and pretty much obidence trained.

They currently have a couple available. Also they are connected to texasgsp.org

You bypass the puppy stage and the fosters do a great job of vetting them to ensure wht you are getting

Is there not a rescue group in Baton Rouge? I saw them at the burbank dog park a few weeks ago with about 20 or so dogs

My wife and I work with them. We used to foster but have paused that while we have small kids (we already have a gsp and a Brittany). She's actually transporting a beautiful dog to a foster this weekend. Let me go find a pic.

Got mine from braerwood in Shreveport. She has some pups right now. But as I stated earlier in the thread be prepared to be interviewed before getting a pup. She has a site with a puppy form you can fill out. She does show and pet pups. They have some good hunting drive in them as well.

There are a couple of really good hunting/ field trail litters coming from private breeds in the next couple of months if that is what you are looking for...

You can still view the Facebook page by doing a good search. You just can not post anything on the page.
Louisiana German shorthaired Pointer rescue

I have the same issue with mine. If I'm outside she's outside, if I get up she gets up.

Your dogs sire is Feuer, which is my dogs grandsire coming from his Mom's side of the ahnentafel. While there are a few breeders in TX, I got my dog from a breeder in the Midwest.
