Theres a sharp German made Mark V listed online at $1,099 that I'm sure can be negotiated downward. The German guns are generally the most coveted collectables...

By the time the season ends i have little or no interest in deer hunting. So, I would go with the .17HMR. You can have lots of fun with it, especially when the leaves are off the trees.

You really can't use the Whelen for anything but deer hunting, correct?

If you primarily deer hunt get the 35.If you shoot for fun alot get the 17.

Thanks wiltz but I'm interested in hunting with it. I have read that the German made models were only produced for 2-3 years and are highly collectable.

i already have a .35 whelen so my next purchase will be a .17

love my savage .17, love the trigger, love the round itself and love shooting things at long distances with accuracy
i put a nikon 3x9 on mine, works well enough
