no offense to you lab owners, but who cares. These kind of dogs are usually robots and have no affection.

WTF are you talking bout? I've got 2 labs that love my grand kids & would protect them against anything that came around them.

thanks dude

I was talking specifically about people who keep their dogs at trainers 8 months of the year and run trials for ribbons all around the country. Has nothing to do with labs, asswipe.

eta: I understand there are plenty of dogs with these acheivements that aren't doing what I mentioned. My point is that everyone is quick to say oh yeah my dog did this and this and this like thats the only merit that determines a good dog. Not trying to offend anyone, just making conversation based on my personal observation.

Haha this thread is starting to show that if you want to piss somebody off, insult their dog.

I'm trying to figure out which crowd is more entertaining, the hard core dog games lab crew, or the group promoting these non-traditional breeds that own them and don't hunt or have only been around one dog of that breed.

OP, do your research and get a lab from a good kennel with a breeder that will support you through the dogs development. The duties you need completed are ideal for a lab or other flushing breed. And I don't think you should give a shite about the color of the dog, they are supposed to be black anyways

Well, let's clear something up right now.

I do all my own training and trialing. And I've been training dogs of all breeds for almost 30 years and not as a pro.

I've trained FT dogs, HT dogs, S&R dogs, as well as bomb dogs and Schutzhund dogs.

You're simply making stupid comments based on your assumptions that I send my dogs off.

Sorry you lost me somewhere between no offense to lab owners & has nothing to do with labs. ASSWIPE
The labs are the smartest dogs around and some of they're owners are aware of this. I've even got a sign on my tailgate saying my lab is smarter than your honor student. I believe this in most cases But they are not robots.
Edit: Well I see where you done some editing before I finished this. I'll give you a little insite on my lab. He Purdy much trained hisself or it was bred in him, never went to school & retrieved his first duck at 8 months old. He's 13 years old now & everytime I crank the truck he wants to go. When you can show me any dog that's more willing than him send me a message

There's nothing to clear up, I understand completely.

Again, who cares. Its my opinion based on dozens of dogs that I have been around. At the same time, I have best friends with dogs that have every ribbon under the sun and they are great family dogs.

Do you not consider calling field trial labs robots with no affection a little bit of an insult? Or did a few of those lab guys just get pissed and one call you an asswipe for no reason?

I'm not that kind of feller. Yes I've got a little age on me so I've been around a few labs in my years. Yes they're a lot of guys that put them in field trails & such but ima not into that. Just going by my old arse experience the labs are the smartest dogs around

sorry mayne, gotta play defense when you're getting attacked.

eta: Cat, Chien, Nascar. I apologize if I offended yall or your pups. I could have maybe worded it better from the start, but o well. My point was that there are people who brag on their dogs achievements (all breeds big and small) who don't do anything but send their dog off for 8-9 months of the year to go globe trot with their handler and then proceed to beat their chests over who is better blah blah ***typically, some of these dogs have no affection towards their owners/families like a regular dog who spends time at home does. A good buddy of mine has 30 dogs and I completely understand the importance some people see in having a championship pedigree whether it be field trial or whatever else. That being said, ribbons don't make great dogs and I personally think people make too big a deal about these accomplishments when selecting a dog. Nascar, I'm sure your dog is awesome and it sounds like it. My original comments were not directed to you, so again, no hard feelings. I've hunted around labs exclusively for years and they're all great, regardless of achievements or price tag.
