We walked, me, probably close to 80lbs in the beginning, carrying a treestand, bow, day pack, and flashlight, as far as we needed to go. And when we killed something (which my dad did far more often than I), we gutted it and drug that bastard out. I remember dragging one buck so far we wore through his ribcage. And the clothes we had back then sucked compared to today. I was frozen stiff for 5 months out of every year. If the weather got down into the single digits, my dad would sometimes dig out some old zippo hand warmers that were lit on fire and put in your pockets. And deer were few and far between.

We sat in a climbing stand, in frigid temperatures, with shitty clothing, barely any sleep, not seeing deer, with no iphones or anything to pass the time, for four hours each morning and each afternoon. And yes, everything was uphill both ways.
