Unless you leave your house butt naked on foot and come back with a kill, you cheated. Actually even then you cheated, because you slept in a bed.

I think certain animals do fine with the “modern ecosystems” we have built. Bears weren’t one of them. Forcing then back into a place like Louisiana was a mistake in my opinion.

They weren't exactly "forced" back. Since it was listed in 1992, the only trapping/relocation of bears that I'm aware of or can even find info on was from the Tensas area to the Three Rivers/Red River area. They took Louisiana bears and moved them to another part of the state with suitable habitat.

Contrast that with the restocking program of the mid to late 1960s where they actually brought in over 150 bears from Minnesota, which seems much more forced than what they've done in the last 30 years.

The rebound of the bear population has more to do with programs like WRP resulting in tens of thousands of acres of forestland being restored than it does anything else.

We should have seen how much of a nuisance they were in more open area like East TN before we thought about bringing them back to Louisiana

Depending on who you ask, deer are a nuisance. They cause car accidents, costing insurance companies money. They damage crops, costing farms money.

Should we get rid of them?

Nuisance is relative.

if you got mother nature drunk and asked her for an honest answer, she'd tell you people are a nuisance

Well we are, but it goes to my original post. Everything we have is basically manifest destiny. The land, house, everything we enjoy is because we took it with blood

Let’s not get sappy all of a sudden over bears

cant speak for anyone but me, but my opinion isnt sappy, its just common sense. dont get mad at bears for doing what they do, especially if you bait them in

same with pigs... people complain they have a pig problem then show you pictures of 100#'s of corn on the ground.

Thats cool, but why penalize the human for doing what they can do and fixing the shithead that damages their property?

I mean, you can shoot a human being if they come frick your shite up, but can’t shoot the bear stealing your shite and wrecking stuff

The bears were here naturally. Hunters feeders were not. I say the bears have seniority. Man , like Ben Lilly, came and killed them all. Lilly also killed a bunch of Ivory Billed peckers. And the Tensas nwr feels the need to name a bridge after him. Do away with the feeders.

Man vs. Nature, Nature always wins, might take a 1000 years, but balance will return.

On 1,300 acres, we have a sow bear with triplets and a sow bear with twins. We also have at least three different boars. The mythical Louisiana Black Bear has recovered. Feeders or not, it’s past time to allow the sportsmen to enjoy the resource.

no problem here with that.
its the putting out food in the woods and then whining when it gets eaten i find funny

arkansas has a bear season BTW, but you can only bait them on private land. and if you are dumbass enough to bait them with a high-dollar feeder, you get what you deserve

Get rid of man and the bears would be eating each other. Oh wait, they already do that when boar bears kill yearling cubs. Well, they may not eat them but they have no problem killing the competition.

Mother Nature is cruel to Mother Nature without man's involvement. I support a hunting season if they are becoming a nuisance.

Who was here first is a weak arse argument. Every people and every animal on this planet has been conquered by another.

no doubt. This is common among apex predators as it makes sure only the strongest few dominate.

Mother Nature does just fine without human intervention. A few billion years of incomprehensible biodiversity attest to that

You think pigs are leaving if you don't put corn out? They eat the frick out of acorns and anything else that they can find. They are going to find a food source you hunt, if it isn't corn.

There are alot of folks today that do not even need to be out in the woods , or living rural. They have no rural upbringing. They TV hunters, doing the latest popular fashion activity to belong and fit in on internet talk sites.

That'll never happen, especially not bison. Too many fences,

Fences?

Them F'ers will jump an 8' pipe fence with no problem if they choose/are motivated to do so.

a guy on our diesel forum lives in Canada and raises them like beef cattle, but his fences are 8' high and made of 6" pipe

It's not an issue of whether or not they will jump it. There aren't enough acres of unfenced grasslands to support a wild population of bison in Louisiana. It's all private, and private cattle ranchers aren't going to want a wild bovid running around carrying diseases that could easily cross over to their cattle. Not to mention they aren't going to want them jumping their fences and grazing their pastures.

Some people think the bears are a bad idea, but bison would be worse and would have alot more opposition.

I would encourage everyone to keep their political views out of this. Last thing we need are emotions playing a role in wildlife management.

BTW, while I’m unsure of the future in regards to bear in Louisiana, I’m quite certain that my family never took anything from anyone by blood means.
