Did anyone go with a .30 cal upper? Which one?
As in .308? If that's what you mean you need a different lower.
If you mean a 7.62 x 39 I have two stripped lowers and I am thinking about doing one in 5.56 and the other in 7.62x39
I was actually thinking 7.62x35

7.62 x 39 - most common AK round. Sometimes called 30 cal Russian

So when's the AR-15 OBGT??? Sherburne??

Right now I'm just using the magpul Gen2 MBUIS.
Anyone have any suggestions for a red dot? Definitely looking for something on the cheaper end of the scale, no Troy's

How do you like the MBUS? I was concerned about a plastic sight so I didn't get one. I love the look of the rifle with all Magpul furniture and matching magazine. I will try and add a pic of the rifle I finished this week

I spent the extra to get the MBUS rear sight since the furniture on my AR is Magpul. I have been very happy with it! It's plastic but it is very sturdy. Worth the $ IMHO.

I will probably pick one or two up. I bought a cheap detachable A2 rear sight but it looks a little bulky on the rifle IMO. it was cheap though.

I really like it. It is hard plastic and has a really nice spring loaded system that locks securely into place.
The windage adjustments are secure but I haven't even touched them, just left them smack in the middle.
Unfortunately, I don't have an A-2 front sight adjustment tool so I can't freakin change the elevation.
I am sort of a magpul junkie simply because their products, in my opinion, are the best bang for your buck. I'm no Chris Costa wannabe or anything but some of us don't have $2,000 to drop on rails and expensive sights.
My gun functions as a home defense/quick reaction weapon. Angled fore-grip + iron sights, thinking about putting a light on it.

Do you like the angled foregrip? Seems like it would feel awkward, but looks pretty cool. Have you tried the standard front grip and if so, how do they compare when firing?

I definitely like the Keep It Simple Stupid approach to a firearm. The magpul furniture is comfortable and gives the rifle a clean look. To the poster looking for a front sight tool you can get one for less than $10. I got mine from Del-ton when I ordered a lower build kit. I plan on building two identical AR's one for each of my sons currently (3 and 20 months) figure i can give them as graduation presents or something.

I prefer the angled foregrip. It feels kind of awkward at first, but I found that when I extend my hand extremely far out, basically all the way to the front sight, my accuracy greatly increases. At first I had a lot of fatigue from holding it like that but after a few weeks of handling it feels fine.

You didn't let any dust settle between those kids did you

FWIW my two kids will be about 21 months apart (expecting my second in Oct.)

Why would you buy a gun with a round that would be hard to find and probably, I would expect, fairly expensive.
One of the main reason to buy these guns is the availablity of the rounds and they're cheap to shoot.
