was not happy with the way it acted in my Marlin 30-30...
Winchester soft point power points work really well in my gun...

I hated it big time. Killed a few deer with it and was not impressed. Jacket separation, poor penetration, etc. I went back to regular 170 gr and got the same old consistent results I was used to.

The .30-30 is no more a long range caliber full of squishy tip bullets than it is full of blunt 170gr chunks.

HATE it. Killed biggiest buck on my wall with it. But it wasnt easy. Shoy at 30yds right behind shoulder. Ran off with drop of blood here and there. 200yard trail job, deer still alive. Shot again, it ran off 40yds and died. Neither exited. Never use again.

I used them for two seasons myself with similar results. Switched back to Winchester PPs. I use my 30-30 for woods hunting anyway, usually when shots are less than 70 yards. I don’t need pointed bullets for that anyway.

Just go with Remington core lokt.
I dont usually shoot passed 100-150 yards with the 30-30.
For longer shots, I use a different tool.

Stick with your core lokts. I tried the leverevolution in my 45/70 and wasn’t impressed. Sparse blood trails. I went back to the super x 300 grain.

Hate all the LeverEvolution rounds. I've had little to no expansion with them on deer and pigs with 30-30, 444, & 45-70. Stick with the Corelokts.

I have a 45/70 I've shot a couple deer with leverrevolution and they are the worst round I have ever used out of any gun. Core locks are usually good or hand loads

Forgot to mention I do use leverevolution in my H&R 444. 444 ammo choices are pretty limited, and I've read terrible things about the 240 grain Corelokts. I have shot one deer with the 444, a pretty big doe at about 150 yards. I hit her a bit farther back than you would like, but the bullet performed well, hood expansion and exited. She ran in a half circle and went down quickly.

Hornady makes a 265 round nose superformance I'd like to try one day, but I don't often think about my 444, being I only use it for about 5 days a year.

You should buy some buffalo bore. Big guns should kick hard

I'm not saying everyone should try shots like these with the 30-30 but in the right hands it's a very capable cartridge. I went back to shooting one after years of hunting with a bolt gun. I think the LeverEvolutions are trying to make the 30-30 something it's not.

(No, these aren't my examples but still impressive)

Moose:

Deer @ 327 yards:

This is likely the exception and not the rule.
You are at the edge of the range for having lethal impact energy to down a moose.

Shhhh. Don’t tell all those hunters that used the 30-30 to kill elk and moose in the old days.

It sure wouldn’t be my first choice either.

If you are an OT baller shoot Buffalo Bore ammo. They make a 190 grain round for 3030 that is excellent for bigger game. Some of the best ammo you can buy but it is $$$.
