I’m almost done with a 4x6x6 on 5ft base deer stand frame out of angle iron. Will most likely use treated 1/2” plywood for the walls and roof and treated 3/4” plywood for the floors. Self tapping screws to hold in place. I have tin to overhang 6” on the roof.

Hinges glass windows on the sides and front.

What’s some of your homemade deer stand setups? Looking for different ideas

Looking something like this:

Don’t have to worry about anyone carrying it off

Here’s the one I built a couple of years ago to replace the old one. Just your basic stand, only had to use a trailer to haul the base and the top to the location.

On boxstands I build, I wrap the walls with outdoor carpet instead of plywood. It’s a lot lighter, cuts the wind and squirrels don’t eat it.

I’m building a stand right now same size. I’m going to wrap it with tare paper and deck the sides with fence boards. Buy 6’ fence boards and apply them horizontal up the sides. You will come out way cheaper, it’s looks better, and they are treated. Each board only 1.58 a piece at Lowe’s. I’m going to connect 2 boards together where my window openings are and install hinges so I can swing them open. Once the boards age a little I think it’s going to be perfect color in the woods.

I did the exact same thing a few yrs ago, worked out great

ETA: make sure you put a strip over the joints, board and batten style, because those fence pickets will shrink and leave you with gaps

My friend and I had some sniper platforms.with a roof , walls . A couple were 40 ft. or better up in cypress trees. We used climbing spurs to get up 15 ft then drove 2x4s to climb . Actually slept in them . Not for the faint of heart

For a shooting house, make sure you have a shelf the same height as the window and a shelf on the sides. Put a sandbag on the shelf you put your rifle on and rest your trigger elbow on the side shelf. You can get solid this way.

Speaking from experience. You are going to wish you would have went with 6X6X6. I hunt out of 4X4 box stands. It sucks. That two feet makes a world of difference as far as being able to stretch your legs out. You only need one more sheet of plywood to complete two stands. As someone else mentioned it will be heavy no matter which way you go. If you are building them to sit on the ground the weight doesn’t matter. We used a boom truck to lift ours up when they were built

Should build the walls out of steel. Prime the shite out of it. Put in place with extended reach forklift. God himself will have to move it.

Paper mill felt works wonders if you can locate the material.
