When that poison treatment becomes a reality, I wonder how the policy will be implemented. You know there are going to be some tree hugger types who will object and protest. What will be done when some landowners don't want the poison bait dropped on their property? To me, it seems the same situation as though there were a rabies epidemic and certain people didn't want the problem contained for "whatever" reasons. For an eradication/control solution to be effective, it seems to me there would have to be mandatory permission/compliance from EVERYONE?

It really is all or nothing with pigs. So many folks want them and have gotten into running hog dogs, trapping, supped up night vision that its taken over deer hunting is some areas. I know land owners that lease to deer hunters and forbid them from shooting pigs because they have created a separate market for them. No matter how many I kill off, the first time my neighbor runs dogs, cuts timber, or a few new litters are born, ill have them again.

They have a huge range too. Up to 6 miles by some studies. If you have water and a food source you will have hogs. Honestly with the sheer amount of these 4 legged meals running around, there is no reason for people going hungry in this country.

Im not sure of the nutritional value of a pig but it sure would be nice if there was a market for the meat. Fella someweher around Covington I think pays 1.00 a pound hanging weight for live pigs. A person with a holding pen and the time and land could make a decent amount of money

surprisingly better than beef usually. their meat is not marbled with fat as the fat layer is below the skin and above the meat. Thus pork is a relatively lean meat if processed correctly. Store bough pork is high in salt because it has been brined to overcome the dryness of cooking lower fat meat.

I've never understood why we don't take advantage of that.

Feliciana are you in East or West? I grew up in East off of Hwy 68 and never saw a hog growing up. I have been gone for roughly 18 years but I don't see many childhood friends posting hog kills on Facebook.

On our lease we have a kill on sight requirement for all pigs at all times except during Bow season. Letting pigs walk is not acceptable and you will be asked to leave the lease.

Im in West. I know they have some pigs running around in the Ethel/Slaughter area and north along Thompson creek but they aren't thick like up in Mississippi or along the river in West Feliciana

I know a lot of you Texas guys have more acreage and a worse problem, but I am so far from feeling sorry from anyone around me in Florida complaining about pigs. Every message board has tons of guys willing to pay to hunt the pigs and would gladly hunt them for free all year, but places won't let them and owners that refuse to accept change just complain.

From what I've seen the landowners that complain are the ones that don't have the imagination to make their pigs work for them. Its a product that could be extremely valuable, guys will easily pay $100/ day to hunt them.
