Wet a sack of rice bran and let it get moldy. It will form clumps and smell sour. Bait the trap with that and you will catch hogs. The secret to catching hogs in a trap is to tie the door open at first and let them get used to going in. My trigger is in the back. When I had time and wanted to fool with cleaning them I would untie the door and put two piles of bait, one just inside the door and another at the trigger. What happens is the first couple go in and start on first pile. Others come in and push the first ones to the second pile. Multiple hogs most of the time.

Is it possible to make a trap somewhat like a crawfish trap? Not in desin necessarily but where they can keep coming in but can't leave. Just being curious here

I don't think so cause once the door comes down they pretty much go ape shite and the others run off. But they do have a trap with a motion sensor that wil call your phone when triggered. it has a live feed from a camera and you remotely trigger the door. A little too high tech for me but it did look cool

I've read you can make a pin with the area where you want the door open, let them get use to that. Then place the door to swing both ways, to get use to that. Then just make it swing one way. I've never had the time for this, but I hear it's good for a large amount of hogs.

They're called corral traps. A lot of people don't like them. Hogs are smart!

The few people I talked to that were successful trapping them had big pens. The bigger the pen is they don't realize they are trapped and won't spook the others off. One guy I talked to said his was 80'x80'. Not sure if it was really that big but it sounded like a good idea.

Yes, the bigger the better. People that do it for a living have told me that it is best to have a big trap with a guillotine door.

For whatever the "saloon door" style traps don't seem to work.

Yea any door you have best be heavy duty. I raised pigs for 5 years when I was younger and they will find their way out of almost anything. Dig underneath or rattle something loose, or manage to jump out if its not tall enough (no idea how but it happened)

They will jump on each other's backs to get out.

They are some smart bastards. I don't have any where I hunt but just a matter of time.

We have them. Not many and are hard to find, but we do have them. They tried hunting them this summer with no success. A couple have been killed this season. We kill 1-2 a deer season usually. Along with a couple yotes and maybe a bobcat or 2.

Can the hogs be eaten after diesel was used as bait?

I'm pretty sure they can. I wouldn't see why not. At least not after one or two feedings of it. Don't take my word for it though, I'm just bullshitting

I wouldn't worry about it. If the pigs are still alive they are good to eat.

Just don't expose to open flames

You could try corn with any type of regular old jelly or jam. We tried this with Apple Jam and worked like a charm. Just don't shoot the hogs in the trap unless you plan on moving the trap afterwards. Good Luck!
