Just found out someone stole all of my dads fishing gear so I’m trying to put together what will be a late Father’s Day gift.

I’m strictly an offshore guy so I’m clueless when it comes to what’s hot with the inshore gear. Can someone help me with a list of what I should Supply his new box with? I may also look into getting him a new rod and reel as well.

I’m not sure what any of this runs but I was thinking somewhere in the $500-$1000 range.

It would really help to know what type of fishing he does. Crappie/Bass/Brim/Catfish/Carp???????

Fishes out of Delacroix, Grand Isle and Happy Jack.

As far as I know he usually just brings back trout and red fish.

Assuming he fishes inshore saltwater, start with a good box obviously, not too big to carry but holds a lot and is easy to get shite out of in a moving boat.

The essentials:

•Get him a variety of matrix shad lures in a few different colors
•Approptiately sized jig heads
•A few packs of vudu shrimp in diff. Colors and sizes
•Leader line
•A handful of gold spoons
•Some good tie-on corks
•clip on weights
•barrel swivels
•pliers/Hook remover
•hooks
•sinkers
•a few different trout top water hard plastic lures like top dogs
•some sparkle beetles (old guys love sparkle beetles)
•Some tsunami swim baits in different colors

Then I would just fill the box with what everyone else is buying at academy

Unless of course he’s a freshwater fisherman, then disregard

I would buy him a a cheap tackle box, something with Snoopy on the outside or something, and stick $500 to $1000 worth of Academy gift cards in it. If he's an avid fisherman, there's no way you can go buy what he likes to use. Half of what you buy will be the wrong color or the wrong type or something. Let him do the buying and he can enjoy that experience.

I'm a 66 year old, long time fisherman, and my best fishing buddy could not come close to doing what you are suggesting. Even a rod and reel are such a personal preference. Does he like a baitcaster or spinning gear. Does he like a long rod, short rod, fast tip, braided line or mono. There's just no way you can spend that much money effectively.

Hookers and coca...wrong board, my bad.

Agree with Tigerhead, you could buy one of everything for me and it would still not be quite right. A 500 gift card would do pretty well in academy or bp and let him get what he uses regularly. +1 on the snoopy box and pole too.

That plus a gift card is the answer (or if you have a daughter, a Barbie one)

This hits just about all the major stuff. If it were me, I’d get the stuff on this list and maybe toss a $100 gift card in there too in case he had some other baits he liked to use that you missed. The effort of getting him a tackle box and you filling it up puts extra meaning on it IMO compared to just a gift card

This would be fine too, IF you think he will let you spend the money. Most dad's act like you're endangering your future financial security if you spend money on them. Gift cards are money that is already spent, so they tend to be more relaxed and have fun with it instead of feeling guilty.

I was raised by a Depression Era dad, so I'm generous to a fault, but won't let my kids spend a dime on me.

Was about to reply, but the gag tackle box and gift card is the way to go. Let him dress it out, hell my tackle box is full of lures than never get wet I bought years ago. I probably fish 4-5 lures/types of rigs now.

Gift card for sure. Going shopping for fishing stuff is half the fun of fishing.

Thanks for all the help. I’m going to go with Lord Fords list plus a gift card.

Boodreaux, thanks for the offer but he’s a bit embarrassed being a victim, he would hate it if I put his name out to anyone for a handout. I really do appreciate the offer.

That’s true, gift cards then. My old man used to be the same way, I’d tell him either pick what you want or get a bunch of stuff you don’t, your choice. Usually he’d cave, lol
