There are several of these trees around a friends neighborhood and I’m curious on what type of tree it is. Looks kind of like an oak tree, but it definitely does not seem like a live oak to me. Live oaks tend to spread with large branches in multiple directions, while this tree is more of a single leading trunk with smaller branches coming off of single trunk all the way up. Also the bark looks different than a live oak bark.

I have some small shummard oak trees and the leaves look slightly different than these trees also so I didn’t think they were shummards. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to put gas and plant one of these if I could identify what it is called.

Are you sure?

Is it an evergreen?

Yep. And OP, I wouldn't plant one of those.

My mom has two 40 yr old ones in her yard. They’re always shedding twigs, and the squirrels make a mess out of them. Lots of good shade though.

Neighbor got a Willow Oak 12 years ago. I would get one of those.

Sure. It's not evergreen but holds its leaves long into winter. Tardilly deciduous is the term

Terrible tree for the yard. Limbs drop all the time. I have four I wish I didn't have

I don't believe they do at all. I have 4 of them that i recently planted. They hold their leaves most of the year, but when they do drop, they're so small they almost disappear in the grass anyways.

Drake elms grow fast and do not get terribly big.

They drop seed pods that can sprout up frequently, but I like them and Shumards too.

I feel your pain, but I've got the full house...3 water oaks, and 2 pecans. I could build a new tree after every thunderstorm between those 5 trees.

Water oak. They are lousy trees. Wish I could get rid of all of mine. Give me white, red, post, or chestnut oaks, but the hell with water oaks.
