It's time to trade my old truck and get something new. I want a 1/2 ton truck that is pretty good on gas. I'm leaning hard to the f150s but would like to hear some other thoughts. I like the ecoboost but want an opinion from someone that has one. Does dodge, GMC, Toyota, nissan, and chevy have something that compares to the ecoboost. The truck has to be 4x4 and I want to stay in the 30k range.

Also, I will be trading in my old truck. It has a few minor things I need to fix like re-bedlineing my grill and running boards and a blinker bulb that needs to be replaced. Should I fix it all up before trade in or will that not effect the offer I get?

Sorry for the hard read, on my phone.

Hell no........if you're trading it in....don't spend a dime on it.

ETA: go ahead and get the f150........otherwise you'll just be disappointed. I'd wait a few months and step into a 2015 model though.

Fixing the stuff on your truck won't hurt, but won't get you more money either. Just depends how bad it looks. If it looks like crap they will low ball you saying all this stuff will need to be fixed that they have to put in shop for and spend money on.

You looking to get a new 4x4 truck for 30k? Regular, extra, crew cab?

Katrina kind of unsettled my schedule on trucks so I bought another Chevy cause I needed too. It's the worst of all 5 I have owned, so I really can't recommend them.
I guess I'll have to watch these threads and spin the wheel.

This is where you tell them to piss up a rope and you'll be going down the street to purchase your new ride.

I just saw a commercial where Ford is now offering 13k off of sticker on 14 model crew cab F150's. I may trade my 13 model in this week.

Leave everything like it is. You only run into problems when they are big and obvious(like me with a fricked up front bumper).

That new dodge 1/2 ton diesel sounds interesting, but I wouldn't get a first run of any engine. GMC and Chevy have between $7k and $10k manufacturer discounts right now on all trucks. A 1500 LS or SLE with a 5.3 and 4x4 would probably be around $35k brand new

True. Just speaking from experience. I worked at a dealership for quite a few years and saw it all. They try and get you one way or another.

Just went through this process this week.

The will lowball the eff out of any trade. I'd still fix the minor crap and clean it up. If you aren't picky on colors and they have one on the lot, perfect. Still, you're gonna have to play at least two against each other. Get their price on their truck first, then negotiate on your trade value.

Remember, the Ford dealer's competition isn't Chevy, it's the other Ford dealer.

Toyota is way too proud of their trucks, IMO.

They oughta be glad a sport like me would consider such Japanese foolishness, much less offer me a deal "at $2K off of MSRP."

What are your other requirements? You want a stripped out truck? Cause $30k won't get you much in terms of 4x4 half tons these days - unless you're willing to shop used.

As far as gas mileage; the best available right now is the Ram with the Ecodiesel...but it comes at a $2800 premium over the Hemi and you would undoubtedly have to wait for it as demand has exceeded availability. The Ecoboost is a great motor, haven't heard anyone that owns one say anything bad about them. Just don't be so naive as to think they are super fuel efficient; they are only 1 to 2 mpgs better than a similar V8 equipped 4x4. Ford's 5.0, Ram's 5.7, Toyota's 5.7, and GM/Chevy's 5.3 V8's are all rated around 14 city and 20-22 hwy mpgs. Think the Ecoboost is 16 city/22 hwy.

IMO, you can't go wrong with any of them. I did read an article last week that said something about F150's being expensive right now because they have to cut capacity in the factories to retool the factories for the new all aluminum body the are introducing in 2015. So they will be less willing to come down on price in the coming months on F150s. I also wouldn't want to get into a 2015 F150...first year of an all new bodystyle - no thanks.
