I know the Citori is the gold standard. Are there other options that are strong too?

And with the Citori, there are a dozen configurations. I’m guessing this gun will only be used for skeet shooting. 28 gauge?

I’m kinda clueless on this so TIA.

I shot a 20 gauge O/U at a clay shoot last week. worked fine and not as fatiguing (as expected). But lots of folks were shooting their normal bird guns. Savage Stevens has O/U 20 gauges that's under $600-$700 on Cheaper than Dirt or Gun Grabber

oh and screw whoever decided to add the rabbit to the course. that just screws up a good day

I have a Beretta silver pigeon and a savage over under. Both are in 12 gauge. The Beretta feels better to me and it is more comfortable.

I wish i would have gotten it in a 20 or 28 gauge though as it is kind of heavy.

Yeah I have a Benelli M1 for quail, pheasant, etc and a Beretta A300 for turkey.

I want a dedicated skeet gun so I’m thinking 20 or 28 gauge for this one.

We should team up, that's almost the only damn thing I could hit last shoot I went to.

OP: I have a Turkish made Huglu I horse traded for in 20ga and love it.

Do you find the 20ga hard one longer shots or have you now gotten it down? I know 12ga will be easier for those kinda shots but 20ga will be more forgiving on recoil and weight.

Nah, I'm equally bad...

Seriously there's not a huge difference in performance in the two for skeet, at least I find.

I recommend going to a store with a number of different guns and swing them. For clay shooting look at 30” plus barrels

I recognize this is what the pros do and it's proven and all but I'm a pansy and I'm used to swinging a much shorter, uh, barrel so I get tired after a box or two.

While not a Browning or Beretta, I recently bought a CZ 20 that I’m really enjoying so far. I was looking at some higher end guns but I didn’t want to have to be overly protective of it out in the field, so I downgraded a little bit. I’ve killed doves and shot a few hundred target loads through it and have no complaints so far. All in for around $1k.

Franchi

Had a chance recently to play with some O/U shotguns and was impressed with the Franchi. Balance was good and swung it well. Have a Franchi Affinity in 20 gauge that shoots really well.

Will you just be skeet shooting or will you be shooting both skeet and trap and maybe sporting clays at times?

I'm beginning to learn a little about trap as my son is on his school's trap team. I'm researching trap guns right now.

Trap gun is way different that a skeet or sporting clays gun.

Standard trap gun is 32-34" barrels.
Standard skeet gun is 28-30" barrels (I believe that is correct but I may be wrong).

And what is your budget? That will give us a better idea.

Beretta, Kreighoff, Blaser, etc are all great guns but without a budget, it's hard to point you in the right direction.

If you are shooting comparable loads (speed of the load), a 20 will not hit a target any lighter than a 12. It will just have less pellets.

I don’t feel like I’ve got quite the punch of a 12, but I’m also shooting cheap shells. That being said, I’ve got a tighter choke in my top barrel for those follow up shots a little further out.

Last year bought a TriStar Setter O/U in 20g, really enjoying it. Turkish made like many others, but fit and finish on it is really strong given the price tag was under $500. Just for kicks piddling with clays here and there, would recommend.

They're expensive but really when you are getting into ttrap guns they aren't any more expensive than any other gun.

Kreighoff KX-6 is around $6500
Beretta DT-11 is around $7500

My son is likely getting Browning BT-99 and we will see how he does with that.

Right now he's using my Beretta 686 with 26" barrels. They're way too short

I didn’t realize a single shooter was a thing

Side note. I shot one of the new Benelli 828s at the range a couple weeks ago. Holy cow it’s amazing

My son is transition to trap next year with 4-h. I have a 12 gauge Lc smith, trap grade double barrel with 30” barrels he might shoot if he has enough arse on him to swing it
