Yes, all 3 killed on public land DIY. We have been building preference points for a few years and applied through the "special" draw which basically doubles the cost of the tag but lowers the preference points required to draw a unit by 3-6 points. Looking at the draw results, we barely snuck into the unit that we were drawn for. It was a solid unit, not necessarily a "trophy" unit, but was a couple hundred thousand acres and ~95% public land so plenty of room to hunt and a target rich environment.

Someone earlier in the thread said this was probably his one and only antelope hunt since the style of hunting wasn't his preference. I'm the complete opposite - I've done the OTC Colorado archery elk hunt where we hiked in 5 miles and camped at 10,500 ft and hunted 5-10 miles from camp every day up to 12,000 ft. I'm built more for riding around in a truck on BLM roads while sipping coffee and listening to the radio while I glass a couple hundred antelope each day.

i need some insight on a deer unit if anyone is in a giving mood. I have 7 points. Trying to decide between a desert unit and something in the snowies.

No insight on deer but I have 1 pt so I'm down to apply as a group and average our points lol

Everybody’s points are antelope? Anybody hunted elk on a general tag up there?

Send me an email at woodbirdtd@gmail sometime and I'll fill you in on what I figured out gearing up for/during my trip. With 6 points you should be able to have a sure enough trophy unt.

Very nice. What make and caliber rifle is that?

Also, Where does one learn to start accumulating points? This is something I might be interested in doing in a few years.

You don’t need a lot of points for pronghorn

Well, you've pegged my interest. I wasn't really thinking about doing a pronghorn hunt but with elk hunting whipping my arse so bad, I might start planning to do this one year. Seems like I'd have a better chance of pulling it off. Unfortunately I'm getting down on elk hunting, starting to think maybe I just aint an elk hunter

Because everyone rushed to hunt before the snow moved in, we couldn’t get our goats into a processor.

BUT the city of Douglas, WY has a city park in which they allow hunters to camp, with a nice bathhouse, and a skinning rack!

We got them skinned, boned, and in the coolers.

You do if you want to get a southern/eastern unit and/or a unit with lots of accessible public land.
