Think a rogue would work?

Yes, but there is a trick to it. Take off the front hook and change it to a bigger size. Double it! Add a 1/4 oz splitshot about 24" up from the bait on your fishing line. What this does is that it gets it down deeper. The trout will go down once the sun comes up. Been doing this for many years when I gave up bass fishing and had a ton of bass baits.

Something else to try with a rouge. Get a clear one. They are hollow. Drill a small hole just below the lip. Let it fill up with water, then cast it, let it sink, then work it back like a topwater, but below.

So for the GI experts, when you surf fish, do you fish on the main island of GI where the cabins are, or on the left side of the pass? Or does it not really matter. If the left side, whats the easiest way to get over there?

I keep telling people to use more shallow running crank and suspending baits for the beaches in the summer but they never listen.

I need more info on the crank baits, Ive never thrown crank baits for trout. What should I go buy?

I saw one off bing maps birds eye, but it doesn't look like it goes all the way to the beach...

You should be able to see it on google maps. If you go have a truck and stay on the same path everyone else has taken unless you have 4x4. I just cut across the beach and got stuck the first time I went, following somebody with a 4x4

Haha, with a huge ice chest and gear for the day...so is that a confirmation that it does not go to the beach and is this the road you are talking about?

That must be a high assed tide. You can drive accross the beach right down to the water. Just be careful. It's no fun getting stuck.

There's a sign by the road off of hwy 1. Just take it straight the whole way to the beach, and you can take it down the beach. There's no breaks in the road or anything.

that road takes a beating in storms, the pic may have been taken right after a big storm. They fix it pretty quick

Son & I fished this past Sat. You can drive up and down the beach. If not in truck just stay in other vehicle tracks. Be out there between 4:30/5:00 am. Thigh/crotch deep fishing with live shrimp under a non-popping cork ( 10 to 15 inch trout ) live croaker carolina rigged with 3/8 lead ( 14 to 21 inch trout ). Slowed down alot by 8:00, by 9:00 had driven down to pass to try for bull reds or sharks, no luck, although several of each were landed and released by others. Did catch 8/10 more trout on beach right at pass.

I've fished Elmer's the past few weekends. I'm debating on whether to go this weekend or not. The fishing "forecast" indicates poor results, but who the hell knows what that means. Wind looks better on Sun/Mon.

I drive a little FWD sedan. I've followed the road to the beach, hook a left and stay on packed down tracks and cruise on out to the beach. Stay on the hard, wet sand where possible and out of the dry, fluffy stuff. Also, keep moving if you get in a soft area.
