Thanks for all the info guys.
I may head down this weekend as well. More questions - best bait shop along the way? Do you guys just keep shrimp and croakers in floating basket/net?

I have a little mr bubbles bucket and battery powered aerator. If I'm hitting Elmer's island there's a little place not far before it on highway 1

I need more info on the crank baits
I use a fire red bandit for redfish and for trout, I use the pearl white one. As before, I change out the front hooks to bigger size. Also, the shad color works good at times. Fishing the rocks, a baby N in shad color works real good. All are deep diver baits.

Do wash those baits real good when you get back or they will rust to shite in no time.

Just some advice to anyone going to Elmers for the first time.
Bring a tow rope.
And do not wade fish at Camanadia pass. I have seen more than a few people get sucked out to the gulf in the current.

If hitting grand isle can you drive on the beach? Can you access the beach anywhere?
Posted on 5/23/12 at 3:12 pm to BrotherEsau
just recently they opened a few of the public beach access spots near the east end that allow to park on the beach.
But that does not mean you can drive down the beach however.

Definitely. Those bass baits don't hold up well to saltwater

Yes on Elmer's Island. I went today. The water was beautiful and pogeys were everywhere, but the bite was slow. I tried plastics and Topdogs. The ones I caught were all on Topdogs. Long trip for just a few fish. I think I would have had more luck with live bait.

God help the turtles if you were to catch something. No turtle in the region would be safe. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Good call! No, I didn't have any problems. The sand is packed. If you happen to run into any problems, just hug the shoreline and you'll be fine.
