Haven't run my boat in over 6 months...
Posted by TheSurge on 2/14/11 at 1:07 pm00
Are there any additives I can add to my gas to breakup condensation build ups?

It may still be useable, but if I had to guess you are going to have issues. Been there done that have the bill to prove it.
Stable and seafoam are good things to use next time.
Carb Clean out and tune up are probably what you are looking at. Plus any extra charges for getting rid of the old fuel.

Thanks
first get rid of the old gas, syphon it out. Then put marine stabil at the ratio recommended and use NON-ETHANOL fuel. A double dose of the recommended ratio of techron would help too. Seafoam is good but it doesn't work as well if you let it sit in the tank for months instead of burning the fuel because of it's chemical makeup.Merc and Yammy both market a decarb but both are basically techron and techron is a lot cheaper.

I am told ethanol is what is killing boat engines. I tried seafoam (recommended by the board) this year and have run mine several times. No problems. Mine is also a cocktail cruiser so I can't run the engine wide open enough to do what fishing boats can.

I second this process.
I do this with my gas if it has sat for longer than 2 months without a stabilizer in it.
I just did it this weekend. Syphoned the gas out. and put seafoam in tank with a full tank of ETHANOL FREE fuel. This weekend I will be
running the whole tank through the boat. Start easy. Idle and put around for 15-20 minutes. The start to open her up. Run her for a couple hours.
Almost like a mini break in.
It may not be totally necessary, but i like to baby my 1999 year 115 mariner.

Must be nice to have access to ethanol free fuel. Here in Georgia I haven't found any.
I always put the blue stabil in my tank no matter how long it sits just to fight off the ethanol issues. Seems to be ok so far.

SEafoam is for decarbing, carbon buildup in the cylinders. It is not a fuel treatment or a real additive.
If your carbed, spray the jets and run at the house before ya go. Should be fine.
If injected, jus make sure ya got good gas and a charged battery...

There is one little gas station down on Black Bayou in Gonzales that last I heard sold ethanol free gas. Somewhere on rodnreel or louisiana sportsman there is a link to find stations that sell it all across LA.
And Surge like others said get your gas tank drained then refill with the marine sta-bil and premium gas if you can't get ethanol free. Had it done to my boat in May and it runs fine.
