are opposums and raccoons included in the varmint category?

yup. I can usually give the coons away and maybe trade for a beer or two, heck sometimes you can get $10-12/coon. Coons and possums eat turkey eggs, I hunt turkeys, so there isn't enough room for the three of us.

I caught a mouse in a sticky trap and felt bad about it, but once he commits to walking on it there's no turning back from that.

I hate sticky traps. My exterminator put some in my garage, didn't tell me, and I left the door open. A little bird (sparrow) flew in there and landed on it. When I found it, it was trembling and trying to get loose. I called every 24 hour vet in the book, and none were willing to look at it, and offered no advice. Finally, one told me to sprinkle a little baby powder on the glue and slowly pull it out. It died in my hands. I couldn't pull any of it out without breaking it apart. It died pretty quick, i think of fright. It's heart was pounding. poor thing.

frick glue traps.

I felt bad about the owl and hawk, one of the coyotes, and a dog.

Hey, I am just out on the water enjoying my surroundings, with some string in the water. That fish can swim right on by me and I won't cause any harm. He made the choice to steal the bait that I worked hard for, while there is plenty out there for him for free. At that point, he is a guilty SOB

Fair enough My fear is that after I pull the trigger, I would feel like complete shite so I never had any interest in hunting.

To be honest a lot of the comments in this thread make me feel heartless. I've never felt bad about shooting something yet. Even the small deer, just pissed I shot something small. The only time I really feel kinda bad or hesitant is wounding doves and having to wring the neck after. That and wounding a squirrel and stepping on I to suffocate it. Never wounded a deer to where it wasn't dead when I found it, but I'd probably feel bad about having to finish them too.

Buy eating it, you're part of the demand. So are you not indirectly condemning animals to death by demanding the products of dead animals?

Just one way to look at it. I feel responsible either way (doesn't bother me though).

Sure I am. I though I made it clear that I don't have an issue with that. I just don't have to be the one doing the killing. Just like a woman that likes fur, I doubt they want to skin the animal themselves.

I couldn't at first, but watched my dad do it. The first time I dove hunted by myself nobody else was there to do it so I had to man up.

My ex and I did a lot of catch and release Black Drum fishing a couple of years back on Lake Borgne. These fish were fun to catch but you couldn't eat them because when they got that big they were filled with these little worms.

One day we caught one and I guess me fighting it so long and pulling it up from so deep, he was done when he hit the surface. We tried to get him to swim away but he wouldn't.

It was sad because you know that fish was super old; the only 'good' thing that came out of it was the fact that he worked on a nursery with some Mexicans and took that nasty big old wormy fish to them and they cooked it right up. So at least someone at that nasty stuff and it didn't go to waste, but fish tacos

Yeah, that sucks. A better way is to just slam their little heads against the stock until either the head comes off, or you see brain splatter on the wood.

My point was, if you're pulling the trigger or commanding somebody else to pull the trigger, how is the result on his hands any more than yours? You were still the one who made the decision that something was going to die...

Not trying to troll ya or anything. It's how I look at things.

I've used that method as well. I like to change it up. A trailer hitch ball is also a good surface to bash its head off against.

I would assume this has something to do with it. I never had a father so everything came from mom. Maybe that is why I am a pussy when it comes to animals
