Always a little sad when i kill a deer and i just feel real bad when i make a bad shot. But just like i do with most things i thank God the moment i put my hands on the kill and give thanks to be able to enjoy the outdoors and provide food for my family. Some of you may not feel the same and thats ok, but those who do know exactly what i'm talking about.

I caught a mouse in a sticky trap and felt bad about it, but once he commits to walking on it there's no turning back from that.

I'm picturing you scraping his little feet off the paper with tears in your eyes.

Yes, I shot a squirrel in my backyard to help train my dog and the sob wouldn't have anything to do with it.

I actually think it is a legitimate question. I don't think guilt is the right word, but I think every hunter should at least feel some sort of respect for the animal after killing it.
Agree 1000%

I'm the same way. I don't like seeing anything suffer (except mosquitoes. frick a mosquito). I've never felt guilty about pulling the trigger though. I'm doing what man has done for the entirety of its existence, kill and eat. Man must kill to survive, and I don't ever want to become detached from that reality like so many people are these days.

I shot a yearling once that I felt bad about. Thought he was further away making him look smaller. Damn good shot, dropped right in his tracks. However, making that kill sucked. He was good eating though.

I think we all do, and should, feel bad when a kill is not quick and clean. If it doesn't bother you when you don't find an animal, or know you've just wounded it and it's going to slowly die, then you don't need to be hunting.
Was hunting with a friend this weekend whose 11 year old son shot a 50 lb doe. He had to track it for several hundred yds before finding it with half it's guts hanging out. I asked him where he was aiming when he shot, and his reply was "i don't know, i just shot" really pissed me off. I'm all about educating youth and giving them the opportunity, but that really set me off b/c there was absolutely no regard for making a clean kill.

He's too busy suing his ex-wife according to his most recent post:

The Amigo is definitely on the moral high ground compared to us bambi killers...

Many of us agree that Bobcats, coyotes, feral pigs, and uncollared dogs are varmints/nuisance animals and should be shot on sight, but are opposums and raccoons included in the varmint category?
I usually feel no remorse about taking the life of a 'possum but do feel bad about shooting a raccoon.

This is why I don't hunt. I would feel horrible killing an animal. I have no problems with others hunting though. I will eat any meat that is put in front of me as well.
I just don't find it necessary for myself to kill an animal. I can buy my food. I understand that my food was killed, but I don't have to be the one doing the killing.
I love to fish though
