The paint thread got me wondering how common this is.

I hunt family land with a couple of cousins in north Mississippi. It's about 1500 acres total but its split up in to 4 or 5 different tracts. The first year we hunted it some guys who poached it saw us going in and reported us to the game wardens. When we finally caught them hunting there they got mad at us because they had been hunting there for years and nobody had told them anything.

The first couple of times we caught folks we just told them to get off but it got so bad that we had a game warden on speed dial. A lot of people who lived around the land felt entitled because they had been hunting there for years. One guy tried to meet my cousin at sonic.

These were all Mississippi folks who were trespassing yet I always hear that coonasses are the ones who do all the outlaw stuff haha

Yep, Sitting in my climber with my rifle on my lap. Dude comes riding up on a 4 wheeler. I wave to him and he stops under my stand. He immediately asks me why I am hunting there and who gave me permission. I chuckle and say "I gave myself permission. Why are you riding a 4 wheeler here, and who gave you permission?"

He cuts me off, saying it's his property and I'm trespassing. At this point I stand up. I don't laugh this time.

I say "no bud, this is actually my property and you are the one trespassing. You can wait there while I call the police, or you can backtrack the frick out of here and don't come back."

He rolled on out.

a neighboring property was leased by a group that would hunt anywhere they pleased. If you caught them on your property they would just claim to "not know they were over the line".

We were finally able to buy the property out from under them. They tore down one of our gates too - claimed it was blocking access. So we had a lot of 4wheelers joy riding through for a while. Most when confronted apologized and turned around. One group acted like it was their right to be there and we had a few words.

Yes, since its automatically "No Trespassing" in Vermilion Parish, I have a sheriff buddy on notice to arrest them, no questions asked. Got tired of all their bullshite.

Yep, we also happen to have a deputy in our club too. He generally takes care of things very quickly.

He has asked everyone if you catch someone there just send him a text, do not confront anyone.

That would be the best. I might even be willing to subsidise his membership dues a little.

We have some shared family property in Ohio, just 40 acres, but backs up to a large public game preserve (Deer and pheasant). The back of our lot is fenced along a tree line. We dont hunt the property, its just for family events. So we dont really catch anybody in the act. But our fence is cut about once a week during hunting seasons

Had a guy that would sneak in the backside of our lease and hunt. We never could catch him but we'd find his tracks fairly often. A couple years ago on opening morning of bow season I climbed into a ladder stand we had well before daylight to give the woods time to settle back down. Guess who came slipping in about 30 min after I'd got in the tree. Me being the smartass I can be sometimes I decided to see exactly where he was going. Guess where he was headed........ dude started climbing the ladder and I never said a word til he got about 2 steps from the seat. I never hollered or anything I just told him "aint enough room for both of us up here". He jumped clean off the ladder and fell flat on his back Once he caught his breath from it getting knocked out of him he tried to say he must've accidentally got over the property line. He got up and limped off and we never seen his tracks again.
Other than that run in all we ever encounter anymore is a stray kid or 3 just riding 4 wheelers every once in a blue moon. We don't mind that since they go to school with my oldest daughter and never mess with anything

Works for us. Louisiana has some weird trespass laws.

1) Your land does not have to be marked anymore, burden of knowing where you are is on you.

2) DMAP land a game warden can make the arrest for trespassing in addition to a deputy

3) Non DMAP land is a civil matter and only a deputy can make arrest or issue citation

4) If I understand correctly you can lose your 4 wheeler, gun, and most everything else in your possession when caught trespassing

Had 2 hunts ruined this past season from trespassers duck hunting on the property. They made themselves at home with 2 dozen decoys, flappers, over the limit wood ducks. Sheriff deputy hauled them off

On family land that I grew up on, with ours and other family homes bordering all around. Not a huge piece and not serious big game but a good sliver of woods and creek/swamp.

Some yahoo piece of trash had moved into one of the places on an edge and commenced to running his dogs all through it. Never came so close to shooting a non stray dog before. Was back there and came upon a guy I knew from school, his younger sister was friends with my older sister. I assume he was friends with the yahoo. Friendly enough run-in but let him know it was owned and posted property. Didn't see him again but a couple years later the yahoo burned his trailer down to collect the insurance on it and never saw him again.

I'm pretty sure anybody with a lease has problems with dog hunters.

I have never caught anybody but I have trespassed more times than I can count. This one time I was trespassing and I heard a loud explosion. I almost had a heart attack. The next thing you know I’m covered with paint. Not just paint but oil based paint and you know what. The paint is all over my gun! Just a very strange day.

My grandfather (dad's dad) was murdered by a trespasser. My grandfather confronted the shithole and the guy straight up shot him.

I don't remember it as I was only 2.
