OK I know most of you guys have bought stuff from HF and I'm "rediscovering"; bought a 15A chop saw recently and it works pretty damn good. Anyway are there any particular tools, etc. I probably should stay clear of? I need another torque wrench (a bigger one); anyone bought one from HF & how'd it work out for you?

TIA

Worked ok until I started in building several deer stands. If you think the HF is good wait until you get ahold of a Milwaukee. You will see just how weak the HF version is.

For a hobby guy they are serviceable, but when the going gets tough the smoke will come out.

I have 2 of their torque wrenches (different sizes) When I first bought them I brought them in to work and had our cal lab check them. They were good. I've used them off and on for the past 2 years, I haven't re-checked them, but nothing has broken or come back apart. Just make sure to back them off to zero for storage.

Check out HFReviews.com

A lot of HF stuff is the same thing you get from Home Depot or Lowes, just a different packaging and label. Some of it is junk, but you just have to weigh the job you at using it for and the potential for damage against the cost should you get a bad one.

OP bought a chop saw, last time I checked a torque wrench doesn't have smoke in it. As for the impact the only one's I own are air powered.

Bought a torque wrench from them once. Did not work no matter what I set it on. Returned it and the manager insisted I take an exchange. I tried the second one, same thing. Brought it back and the manager didn't believe me. I set it on the lowest setting, we went out to the parking lot and attached it on a lug nut on my truck. The truck was bouncing and the wrench would not slip.

Bought a cheap corded drill once and the thing wobbled so bad I could only drill slotted holes.

Tarps are good. I've got a dirty water pump that is a beast. I think it would pump dry sand if I tried. The more expensive version of sockets are ok, but the cheap line is crap.

Got it.....you switched topics and we didn't catch on

The only time I've used the chop saw (10" BTW) was cutting 1 1/4" galvanized slotted angle iron (made quite a few cuts) and no issues but I get your point.

IMO Harbor Freight tools are one use tools. If you need a particular tool for a one time special project then HF is the way to go. If you are looking to buy a tool that you will need for multiple projects or for years of use HF is not the place to look.

I "filled out" my 1/4" sockets from HF only bc I'll never put enough pressure on them to break them.

Well this isn't encouraging

Thanks for the info so far

That's not a bad idea. I need to replace my set as most of them got lost in the flood mess.

Have been using their angle grinders for years and have held up well. Dead blow hammers, sledge hammers, etc are fine. most of my pneumatic tools are from there as well and are 5+ years without issue.

You know that torque wrenches don’t slip, right?

I needed a 1/4" torque wrench (delicate project), strolled into NAPA and they said they could order one for $170! Went to HF that weekend and they had one marked down from $20 to $10. Love that place.

I think every truck should have one of these in it. You will be shocked at how often you will use it when you have these basic tools with you all of the time. They are always marking these kits down to $35. I think I have 4 of them scattered around.

Whatever the frick you want to call it when it "slips" or clicks or whatever when you reach the set torque. What I was trying to convey is that it was acting like a set/fixed wrench regardless of the set torque.

I bought the 12" sliding double bevel compound miter saw from there during one of the tent sales. The blade was garbage but I knew it would be a put a good one on. It was slightly out of square but the blade had no wobble. I just squared up the saw before I used it and made sure to check every few cuts on a speed square. I build a 8' shed, a 16' deck with it. The motor crapped out after about a year. I think I got my money's worth out of it.

Yes, the trigger clamps suck.
