Thats for sharing. I saw he went went from Durango up through the San Juan Mountains and Lake City in the last couple of weeks. I can't even imagine how tough that is.

That piece of the San Juans is most likely the most beautiful place in CO. But alas I am biased. I visited Lake City in the early 70s and knew I had to be here one day. If you haven't been, treat yourself and the kids to an Alpine Loop drive. IMHO it is unsurpassed in beauty and grandeur.

Fall is a great time. Less crowds and congestion. August through October may be the best time IMHO, period. Colors are out, can see/hear elk bugling and generally the weather is perfect. Of course summer is a good time, just have to keep an eye on Tstorms if you want to hit the high peaks.

Good friends of ours just completed this hike a couple of days ago. They did it over 5 years though, a week or two each year.

Agree that August to October are the best times, but late October can shut down unexpectedly with an early snow.

ETA: confused this with the traditional Colorado Trail which is much shorter. Wasn't sure why he was posting about it other than normal influencer stuff, but he is trying to establish this as a new thing.
