Gun Help "Browning Sweet Sixteen"

Okay, while cleaning out my grandfathers closet I ran across a Browning Sweet Sixteen. I honestly have no idea what year it was made or anything. When looking for the serial number all I could come across was "S 836". I've searched the whole internet and I've yet to find what year this was made. Please help!

It might be one of the Remington guns made 1905-1949

They quit making them in the seventies, IIRC, so it's at least that old.

I have a 1973 mint condition one that was only fired a few times. I will be giving it to my grandson soon. It was my Dad's.

The S/N is throwing me. I thought the gun was very old but then in the second picture the safety is in the rear of the trigger guard which indicates a later gun.

They moved production to Japan in the 70's, still made them until around 2k.

Is it stamped, "Made in Belgium?" If so, I'll give you tree-fitty for it right now.
My dad has one that my mom gave him as an anniversary present in the mid 60s. It has had about a box of shells put through it and is now one of the safe queens. Not a nick on the furniture or a spot on the metal. Looks brand new. Beautiful gun.

I'll never get the "collecting" thing.
Boots are made for walking and guns are made for shooting.
So it looks brand new, but it is worthless if it is not being used for what it was made for.

Not to him. I think it has a certain sentimental value as opposed to "Get the pirogue down the bayou when you lose your paddle" value. He's got a 12ga Belgian Browning that he has shot the shite out of for 40 yrs. Hell, I don't know. I've never asked him why.

Just call Browning. They helped me age a gun before.
