One must be very careful of any law that puts up a barrier of any kind between firearms and law abiding citzens. The gun-control lobby realizes the way to gun-control is not by pushing a broad far-reaching law proposed by a member of congress. The smart approach to gun-control is systematic step-by-step initiatives that slowly take away your rights. Background checks? well ok, sounds like a good idea. What about high-capacity magazines? well ok. Ak-47s? well, hunters dont need them, so ok, and on and on.

Once on that slippery slope it is hard to turn back. Any sort of ban would lead to higher prices overnight and do nothing to curb gun crime.

A couple of years ago some "gun grabber" attempted to ban 50 cal rifles. No one really cares, right? I mean how many people can actually afford the 50 cal anyway? Well, the bill that was proposed was worded in a way thar included 12ga shotguns. Like has already been mentioned, these guys will try to slip in the backdoor if given the chance.

After working on the legislative side of things for a bit, you're exactly right. One has to be very careful of wording, which is exactly why lobbyists and opposing staffers go over these things with a VERY fine-toothed comb just looking for things such as that and points of order on bills.

Just wish they wouldn't do it with our bills.

Bingo. New laws will only stop law abiding citizens from purchasing legal firearms. Felons can't get them legally as it is but that doesn't stop them from getting them.

I had to do a report in my poli sci class at LSU 5 or 6 years back on a gun control.

I found a statistic, cant remember exactly what it is, but it was something along the lines of 4 out of 5 crimes committed with guns were done with guns obtained illegally or via the black market.

i.e. Make background checks tougher all you want, its not gonna change the fact that if a dangerous criminal wants a gun, he need only go to the trunk of some local thug's car to get it.

He is already running for the next election, where he then will push for gun control.

It wasn't a whole lot, actually. His comment was about getting tougher on keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people,

why didn't he mention crazy frickers? Afraid of their lobby?

What components did you use?

I am planning on using an essential arms lower, magpul MOE fore grip, magpul ctr stock and a flat top 16" upper with flip up rear sight. Haven't nailed down a brand yet for the upper.
