What are feeding the Nightcrawlers to? I also do not think most replies on here understand what a Nightcrawler is compared to standard earth worms.

AN older gentleman I know told me about an Ag project they did when he was in high school using complementary techniques. What they did was build a worm box beneath a rabbit cage so that the rabbit poop ended up in the worm box. Said he had nightcrawlers like crazy.

But I can't get the nightcrawlers going.
If all you can get is red worms, and you’re struggling to produce nightcrawlers, just shut the lights off. BOOM, nightcrawlers

It wouldn't exceed my standard deduction.

My daughter grew worms and she told me what she did.
I put about 50 in a plastic tote bend with mostly dirt and some potting soil. I also covered the dirt with cut up newspaper and kept the tote bend in a dark spot. I added a little water to keep the soil moist. I put some holes in the lid.
I fed them ground up vegetable about once week or 10 days. This was a failed project. Over a couple of months they all died off and a few got out. There were a few very small worms the first month. I don't know what went so wrong.

Looking to grow nightcrawlers. I put 24 into my existing "worm farm" with reds, and they don't seem to reproduce, or at least not very fast. I've already gone through them all.
I don't know anything about worm-growing but according to the nightcrawler wiki entry, it can take a year or two for them to reach adulthood/reproductive maturity. Maybe you needed to wait longer before "harvesting" them?

Is it not too hot in the south for night crawlers?
I thought they needed cooler temps and anything over something like 80-85 would kill them.
