Grind stump or dig it out?

I’ve just had several trees taken off my property. I had all but 5 stumps ground because the area these stumps are located is where I would like to build a shop/outdoor kitchen in the next 2 years.
I originally intended to have someone with a track hoe dig out the root ball and fill in the holes with dirt and pack it down really good.
Is it really necessary I do this to prevent a slab from cracking in the future? Can I have these remaining stumps ground and have my dirt pad built over this to set a couple of years and still be safe in the future?

Grind and let rot, when you build shop scrape clean and bring in new fill

If you’re building, dig it out. If not, roots left will decay later and make a depression.

The rot will cause a depression in about 5-10 years, depending how big they are.
I had a 25ft ornamental tree removed in front yard many years ago and just ground the stump and laid sod. At one point a few years ago I was able to put a 6ft spud bar about 3/4 down the hole in the area where stump once was.

That is awesome. Think they have a hand held model?

Well, if they do, I want to watch while someone locks into the stump.

You can just take video of me with my post hole digger this weekend while I try to finish my fence in a heavily treed area(lots of fricking roots)

Would like to see it on a 40" red oak or pecan. Something would break.

Just hook the baddest truck ever built, the tundra. Jerk that bad boy on up out the ground.

Cut the ends off of a 55 gallon drum. Build fire in drum on top of stump. Continue to add more wood periodically. It will burn the stump down a ways into the ground!

Wait a few weeks and then go out with a 1 1/2" paddle bit. Drill a hold in the trunk. Dump some diesel in the trunk, let it absorb into the wood. Add some more diesel and let that absorb as well. Then light it on fire. It'll smolder the roots and everything out.

grind it, you dont even begin to understand just how many and how far those roots go.
if you try digging it up you are in for a hell of a lot of back breaking work and your whole yard will be trashed.
rent, or hire a stump grinder and in a hour or so the stump is 6" below ground and you just cover it with dirt and go drink a beer
now if you are putting a slab on top then you do need to do it the hard way and dig it all up. this is well worth the money to pay to have done. if you dont dig it up when the roots finally rot away the foundation will crack where the soft spots are

Grind that som bitch out the ground. I own 8acres, when some of it was cleared it was buried...been filling those spots for 11 years. I’ve only owned it for 14 years. Good luck

They make stump diggers a lot bigger than that one. Takes a lot bigger machine to control it, too.
