I have an old 1972 Gravely Model L lawn mower that's been sitting in a barn for about 5 years and can't find anybody in our around Baton Rouge who will work on it. Does anybody know of a guy? TIA.

Have your husband take a look at it when he gets home from work

Understandable. The OP's lawn mower is big, apparently useless, doesn't work, and no one in Baton Rouge wants anything to do with it. Just like Gravy.

I don't know a guy, but my dad and I had a similar experience
We cleaned the carb thoroughly, changed the fluids, and made sure the mag was firing properly
Make sure the compression is still tight (almost impossible to turn over)
And that's all it took... well that and almost pulling my shoulder out of socket trying to start it, but it runs like a champ... those engines are damn near bullet proof
That's all i got, honestly
Hope that helps, sorry if it doesn't

That advice deserves an upvote.

I know a guy. BAMS Enterprises in St. Tammany Parish.
They should be good for it.

Thanks, Corndog. I know the carb was in pretty bad shape when it was last running. Compression should be good, it was overhauled with a bore/new piston about 10 years ago and not much use since. The guy who did the work then is no longer with us and none of the local dealers will look at it.
Edit: Thanks Sid, I'll call them tomorrow.
