I caught 2 trout all weekend in grand isle. I fished the beaches, reefs, jettys, grass flats, pumping stations and barges. All of which were on the exterior or near the islands. I was using artificial, live croakers, live pogies, and live/fresh shrimp.

People who fished the outer edges of the marshes, and the rockwalls in the outer marshes including the small islands deep inside the bays caught decent hauls. I saw a few charter captains come in for lunchtime with a wheelbarrow full of +3lb fish, there are some absolute hammers around the exterior marshlines. It was run and gun fishing though, from the guys I talked to they never caught more than 3 fish in one spot.

Me and my buddy gave up looking for trout after my ipilot remote broke around lunchtime Sunday morning and proceeded to drift fish for shark in caminada pass. Caught a 4.5 ft sand bar and a 4 ft black tip, wasn't a great haul but it was more fun than catching catfish.

The trout have been moving in earlier this year to spawn...not sure why but I've never seen them start to move in this early. I guess maybe they are chasing the shrimp that are moving into the marshes.

Unfortunately I haven't been out there to know that. By the time I found that out I didn't have a trolling motor. I have a power pole but there are too many areas that an 8ft pole just doesn't reach.

I’ve had trips like that.
What do you mean by ‘rock walls in the outer marshes’?

All the rock barriers that the core of engineers place to block off canals and whatnot.

The corps has blocked off man made industrial canals all over Louisiana's costline to prevent erosion. All them dead straight obviously manmade canals that have a rock barrier blocking it's access was made by the corps. It's not uncommon to find fish hanging out on em.

you said Grand Isle.....I think you're confused

BTW the only man made navigable waterway that the Corps blocked of was the MRGO and Lake Borgne that I'm aware of......there may have been other waterways blocked off by private individuals or oil companies

I do this now too. Remote breaking can ruin your day quick.

That fricker isn't cheap. $180 for a remote ffs. But yea, your right it practically ended the trip. Don't get me wrong, I love my power pole and use it often. My ipilot though, that thing doesn't stop running.

I had to reason with myself. I spend how much on gas, rods, reels, baits, a couple night stay somewhere, etc?

I can break a rod, loose a reel, etc... and it will not ruin a trip, but a broke TM can sure make a day miserable, almost unfishable.

Yes there is marsh north of GI that the shoreline is covered in rocks to help slow down erosion.

How far north? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it. “North” of grand isle is a big area.

I carry extra batteries, have the i-Pilot app, and also got the wired trolling motor pedal for those freshwater days when I want to sit and troll the bank. Pedal works great as a backup if I ever have remote issues.

Damn, you seem a little bit on edge. You got a pin you can drop to help us out?

I’m mean seriously, how fricking difficult is it to find rocks north of GI? This ain’t chess, it’s checkers.

I’m headed down Thursday, I might be able to find a few.
