STI changed their name because the Center for Disease Control got rid of "STD" sexually transmitted disease, and it is now called "STI" sexually transmitted infection. Customers googling STI were immediately directing to topics on syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc...
I wasnt even talking about the company name/rebrand, I was talking more about how they add/subtract models from their lineup and change the names constantly. It's been a running joke on lots of 1911/2011 forums for years.
This is an actual exchange I had at a shop:
"Hey man, I'm torn between a few 2011s and want to see one of STI's comped guns, do you have the Costa Carry Comp in stock?"
"Oh they don't make those anymore, that model had some changes and became the Omni."
"Oh ok, do you have an Omni in stock?"
"Actually, the Omni is called the DVC-P now."
"OK frick this, let me look at that Triarc right there."
Same thing with their HOST getting changed out for the DUO system and a bevy of other little things. I'm pretty sure there are some models that didn't even last a year before getting shelved. Now ALL the DVC guns are gone and it's all Staccato. I'm sure it'll be the same shite next year.
I LOVED my Combat Master, but that will probably be my first and last STI. I'll probably do a Triarc for my utility 2011 and get an SVI/Limcat/Atlas race gun down the road.

Los Angeles Sheriff's Department recently took receipt of 2,200 pistols for their LEO's. Average pistol price is $3,500 …. do the math
Ehh, their most expensive model isn't even $3500 unless you're talking a comped gun or XL with tuxedo silver finish. The DVCs are better guns than the Staccatos from what I've read/watched, but not $1000 better, so I'd bet that STI is keeping Staccato prices artificially low to get those contracts (it's either that, or they've made some serious manufacturing/production breakthroughs). I'd imagine most PDs are getting Staccato Ps or Cs which are, at most, $2500. They're probably getting nice discounts due to volume as well. No doubt that they're getting popular with LE though

Sorry for the rant, don't mean to dump on STI. They make good guns and I understand wanting to pivot and make more money. It's just frustrating trying to keep up with the constant changes. That, plus they jerked me around for 6 months acting like they would eventually reopen the custom shop, only to finally say "nah we're not gonna do optic cuts or new grips for you." Pissed me off.
Still love you and you're still one of the best gun minds on this board

The higher number will include all maintenance and parts.
Don’t forget that

still have the front site to install but not worried about it just yet as I can't shoot it anywhere right now anyway. The stuff to get the site on there and to keep it there will be here hopefully Thurs.
May find somewhere to shoot on the weekend. We will see.
Here are a few pics of the process:
1st coat of Cerakote. It's a stainless color.
Baking the black overcoat:
Cerakote finished:
I learned that even though I thought I had a really thin coat on the gun, I was still too thick. I baked both coats for 15 min at 175 degrees then lightly rubbed the black with acetone to remove just a little of it which gives the look I was wanting.
After that back in the oven for 1 hour at 300.
There was still a ton of hand fitting of parts. The firing pin retainer too a long time to get it right. The safety took a while as well then the stoning the sear and the hammer.
Trigger is spectacular and sits right at 3lbs.
Finished

That thing is beautiful man. This might be something fun to take on. Tired of building AR's.

Thank you. I’ve done several 80% lowers ARs and a couple of polymer80 Glocks but this was totally different.
Lots of hand fitting.

Turned out real nice. I'm diggin' the worn coating look.

Bumping this up
I learned after the first time shooting it that the extractor need to be tuned. I had no idea that was the extractor needed tuning. The amount of hand fitting and hand tuning on one of this is amazing. But I’ve learned a ton about them. I can take this gun completely down in a matter of minutes and have it back together in just a few more.
After tuning the extractor, my son and I took it out to shoot y-day. After the 1st time shooting it would have a few FTE. Not many but out of 300 maybe 10.
Got it tuned and y-day after 250 rounds it was absolutely perfect. Not a single hiccup.
