I have a 1999 E-Z-Go
Model: TXT
Drive System: DCS

This is an electric 36 volt cart.

Problem: The cart slowly died over several months. Step on the pedal and it won't go in forward or reverse. Wheels don't even try to turn even while on jacks. (The cart will roll freely, so it's not the breaks.)

Where I'm at: I did a lot of stuff (see below) and I'm down to the controller.

Advice on WHERE to buy a controller is much appreciated. Should I get a remanufactured on or a new one? Any and all other advice is welcome.

Stuff I did already:
1) I checked battery pack voltage (38.4) and each battery (6.4)
2) Repaired broken wire from the reed switch.
3) Replaced bad solenoid (I benched tested it.)
3a) Benched tested the new solenoid (tested Good).
4) Replaced bad (cracked) Inductive Speed Control (ISC)
5) Traced and performed continuity test on all wires. All good.
6) Tested Forward and Reverse micro switches. Good.
7) Tested pedal switch. Works great. Also swapped it out with a new one to test, but I kept the old one in because it is better quality.
8) Tested key switch. (Also bypassed it)
9) Tested Run/Tow switch. Good.
10) Replaced the diode/resistor thingy on the solenoid.

11) Had the motor refurbished/rebuilt. Did a continuity test on the two wires (black and white) coming from the controller going to the motor. Before refurb it a had a resistance of 14 ohms. After refurb it had zero resistance.

Before refurb, I jacked up the cart and tested the motor with 12 and 18 volts; wheels didn't turn without me helping and then it would stop immediately. After refurb, I tested again and the wheels turn fine, as it should. So I'm confident in the motor at this point. (And by testing I mean I bypassed everything and attached power directly to the motor. Single wire connects S1 to A2. Negative from the battery goes to A1 and Positive goes to S2. I used car jumper cables to connect the battery to the motor.)

Like I said. I'm down to the controller. As far as I know that's all that's left.

For your trouble:

My advice would be to get on Buggies Gone Wild and read up and ask questions there. Those dudes know everything. I have the same cart but 2008 and have had to fix/replace a bunch of stuff on it the last few years. I usually start on BU and/or YouTube. My drivers side rear axle/hub/bearings are what give me the most problems over and over.

I was about to post about buggies unlimited too. Great site for problem solving. Some good online stores to send you the parts too.

My speed sensor was out on a club car cart keeping it from going over 5 mph. I had he computer code changed and it was no faster. Had a simple test you could do to verify it that they described. Solved my problem with a part I ordered from one of the sites advertisers. Cart now runs about 20mph.

Haha. I looked up the Buggies gone wild site in my browser and then let you leave me astray with your mistake when I came back to post.

My comment was about buggies gone wild too.

I recently worked over my dad's golf cart, 2001 model of yours. Checked everything not related to the controller, installed a refurbished controller from some company in Pennsylvania, new batteries, made new batter cables. It works but it was a pain in the arse and now it just sits in the garage collecting dust....

You should be able to google and it will lead you to buggies gone wild or maybe you can search without being registered also. I access it through Tapatalk on my phone.

But I'm sure Dad will use his. He has trouble getting around the yard without it.

Maybe we should swap.

The boys on BGW know their shite and are very helpful.

They're walking me through an issue with mine as we speak.

While we’re discussing golf carts, I have a 2006 EZGO ST with the 36v Series drive system.

When I go to charge it, sometimes the powerwise plug gets SUPER hot. All the while it won’t actually charge. Sometimes it’ll get warm and charge just fine.

No actual problems with the operation of the cart other than it being slow AF.

It sounds like the controller is bad. I had the same thing and checked the entire circuit (keys, FNR microswitches, pedal switch). Turned out the brand new controller was bad. I went with the Alltrax controller and it has made a world of difference in the cart. I highly recommend it.

I have a buddy who got a cheapo controller off ebay and it's pretty good as well. For the price it is hard to beat, but only time will tell if it holds up like the Alltrax.

I got mine from cartsunlimited. That guy knows his stuff. He is a big poster on BGW as well. He will literally walk you through any issue you are having. Good dude and good prices.

Scotty @ carts unlimited is a good resource. He is a sponsor/contributor on the buggies gone wild forum. Sometimes he can seem a bit “odd”—just a heads up.

If your controller is bad, definitely consider Alltrax. Worth every penny.

Good luck!
