Wore them to work this past week and started getting blisters above my ankles. I've heard several ways to break in boots including, steam, standing in the shower with them on, filling with hot water, rubbing alcohol, mink oil, etc etc etc

I tried the hot water method for my current boots. IMHO, nothing works as well as just wearing them all of the time

Wear them, I've been fortunate to never get blisters from shoes

Lucky bastard. I had to turn my blisters into scars to get rid of them. Scars don't blister, so I am in the clear now

shaving cream is what I use

Just keep wearing them. They will soften up in about a week.

Buy Wolverine and you won't have this issue

I think the heat and moisture from your feet softens them up well

I just oil them up and wear them. For the first week or so I always bring my old boots with me so I can swap out if the new ones get too uncomfortable.
I used to put baseball gloves in the oven after oiling the hell out of them and that worked well. Haven't ever tried it with boots though.

I did that once, and they dried out and cracked. Only heat I put on them now is from a blow dryer, and is when I am trying to melt the beeswax in my boot oil

This may sound strange but wear them when you are not working. For example, around the house on the weekend. You may be doing some light work or walking which breaks them in. Wear them several times before you need them. Once you start using them, buy another pair and start breaking the newest pair in. Always have a new pair ready or almost ready for use.

I always wear two pair of socks until boots are broken in good. It works in preventing blisters. I think it lets one sock rug against the other.

Fill boots up with water, let them soak about 5 minutes. Dump them out and and dry out as much as you can with a hand towel. Then crumple up news paper and pack it inside boots till full. Put in direct sun, hot water heater closet or hot attic to dry. Been doin that for 30 years now always works for me. Boots should be good after that!

Not to be a dick, but why not buy boots that fit? Just sayin'.

Nobody said anything abut the boots not fitting. They fit well. The leather is stiff at the tops and rubs.

Piss on your ankles, it will toughen them up. Serious,

Never had this issue. I wear Wolverines

Put plastic bags/ice bags in boots and fill with water (make sure bags dont leak)...place in deep freezer. Water will expand while freezing and stretch leather. Sounds dumb but works...
